キズ (KIZU) - R/ E/ D/

The only thing that’s truly objective here is the numbers, so Oni is one of their most successful works.
For me, LGWY and Oni are among their strongest works, the rest are also good, maybe not so exceptional.
But Kizuato for example, which is a favorite for many fans, doesn’t rank among the top ones for me.

I like a lot of their output in general, they definitely have a handful of misses for me personally and so far this track is in there for me. While its not bad, its not great either. I also find it hard to focus on much else when Lime is just constantly trying to be on top of everything. If i remember correctly, except the first 10 or so seconds for the intro he literally doesnt stop for the whole song. He’s not the only one guilty of this, a lot of VK vocalists seem to now and again do too much… The art of being a good musician, whatever your part is, is to know what to do and where, not just constantly go go go because you feel you have to or are expected to or whatever. Maybe itll warm in the future, or be better live, but for now I cant take to this track so much.

R/E/D is the first song in years that’s wowed me. There’s an evil ferociousness there that reminds me of 0, even though 0 is the superior track. I just wish the shit was mixed better. This seems to be an issue with a lot of their stuff. I have to resort to a live version 9/10 times.

The live version is everything i wanted the full studio mix to be. The demo version is barely indistinguishable from the version they released.

Do we know who’s mixing their stuff?

Its crazy how a band of their caliber haven’t nailed that shit down. Its one of the reasons I havent tuned into a lot of their stuff.

Their singles since 2022 have been mixed by Yasuyuki Hara.

Personally, I’ve always liked the way they sounded and have mostly seen positive opinions. What exactly don’t you like?
People often bring up issues with the mix or production. I remember there was a whole debate about Dir en grey’s mixing, and honestly, most of the time I don’t even get what the problem is, sometimes it feels pretty subjective since opinions vary so much.
But Red is one of those cases where I also feel like something’s off. I enjoy the live version a lot more.

I 100% agree with this. Feel the same in this instance as well tbh, thw actual mix apart from Heisei hasnt ever been bad imo.

Yeah, I’ve also heard some complaints about Heisei from musicians who generally praise their sound.

Oh okay cuz in my mind the four musicians from the american band were flying out to Japan every time Kizu needed a new mic plugged in

This song has grown on me so much since it came out, honestly think it’s their best since リトルガールは病んでいる。which was 3 years ago already. The mixing does suck though, the releases up to Strawberry Blue were much better imo

The mastering on this song needs an overhual :sob:

Honestly I don’t think its a bad song it just grates on me that Lime does not shut up at all throughout. Literally the 10 second intro or whatever is the only instrumental part. Lol. There is a time to vocal and a time to not vocal…

At this point I have to accept that kizu is a live band. Their songs have a complete different feel live. Their recordings are fine, but the best versions of the songs are live

When Lime decides to actually sing some of these songs. He straight up omitted a huge chunk of the ending lines of R/E/D/ at Budokan, actively avoids singing Heisei and Buta (despite playing them at every live), and…i STILL agree with this statement.

Lime said something similar himself. They just love to play live. I have no complaints about their recordings, but their live performances really impressed me a lot. The first live show of theirs I saw was VISUAL 2022, and I was blown away by the energy and the live vocals. It’s still my favorite live to this day, probably tied with last year’s performance at Yoyogi. Every show has its great moments, but those two stand out to me the most.

Didn’t he skip just one line? I think he just needed a moment to catch his breath :slightly_smiling_face: His parts are really demanding, his stamina is great anyway.
