メリー (MERRY)

In my case I like everything up to M.E.R.R.Y. and a bit more, after that is ehh?

the only song that I remember and I like from M-ology gotta be “平日の女 -A面-”
also because it was the first song i listened from them before I started with their early stuff

@Baroque Great track, always loved how it closes off the album! And yeah, sad but true, somehow newer MERRY is just less remarkable for me… but that might have to do with them doing this for so long I guess.

In any case, I miss these more ‘fluid’ songs of theirs, if that makes sense. Just a catchy melody flowing together with a driving/swingin’ beat accented with interesting little melodic/rhythmic nuances. In contrast, when they started doing the more stripped-back punky thing, suddenly lots of their tracks began to have these repetitive stop-start rhythmic bits that completely broke even the more melodic songs. idk, maybe it’s just my perception.

I have been listening to Merry a lot recently, especially when I’m not in the mood. I don’t understand why it’s so underrated though, it has great music and is def a band thats worth listening to

If you wanna start listening to them right now, I’ll post some songs to listen to by them that I like in general.

I do not think so they are underestimated but since NOnsenSe MARkeT, their creativity seems to be declining from year to year, and the departure or Kenichi at 2020 didn’t fix anything. It remains for me one my favorite bands or the 2000’s. I particulary like Nero who i consider to be one of the best drummers of the vk scene.

Their first couple of albums is pure vk/jrock history. Absolutely amazing stuff. I have also felt their recent stuff, or say after 2015-ish, isn’t that good. Mediocre at best with almost no bangers at all. Its like they completely lost the spark or something. Hurts to say but… creative bankruptcy? Anyway they had a sick run when they peaked with all those amazing releases (from 2000 to 2010?). Good times.
