I wouldn’t exactly call LS cool anymore than I would call YOSHIKI cool these days
Not making any comparison of the behaviour of one and the other, mind you - just talking about their relevance to the people who tend to go to Mc Donald’s.

do you think old ppl wont go to mcdonald’s

VK has yet to make many things as cool as Luna Sea 1991. No amount of time or synergistic corporate strategies can change that.

First time I saw this i thought it was some ancient commercial I had missed, but something wasn’t adding up. Thanks for clarifying it was actors lol

I was afraid they AI’d them.

For what it’s worth, I feel like most people know Rosier. When it comes to Jrock in general, if I mention I like Vkei and I hum rosier they’ll know it. I think it’s like how people might not know or care about Prince, but most everyone knows Purple Rain.

What I find wonderful about the people they’ve chosen is that all of them have such deep respect and ties with the scene too :”)

I’m super glad they made such conscious choices for who to play which parts!

Yue (who plays J and is the bassist of Kizu) was talking about how J influenced him from his student days.

Hiroto from Alice Nine, who plays Inoran here, has been really active with these tribute projects, given that he appeared at that huge NHK New Year’s Eve show for that Rusty Nail cover.

Not forgetting Hibiki too!

I wonder if they actually approached Luna Sea to do this and they did not want to or could not for whatever reason? I mean, why else would they hire other musicians for this?

What i have noticed, during the last year McDonalds japan has been a big thing for their campaigns, like jpnetizen are expecting their next collab, as many of their ads have had a huge success.

And looking only by the numbers and impressions in YT and twitter, this one is not different.

I see the quality and the effort put on this. they just released a reaction video from all the members.

Maybe the fact that this is all from Mc donald’s, the most meh fast food chain ever, is what doesn’t let me enjoy it as everyone else.

they def had permission from Luna Sea since the members and the official account have been retweeting the clips.

my guess is -

  • it’s probably either cheaper to ask tamutamu to sing this parody song,
  • or the band itself doesn’t want to parody itself.
  • having the members in their current states wouldn’t be as iconic as the original Rosier visuals
  • they wanted the actor who plays ryuichi in this to be the star of the commercial for whatever reason (and a 24 year old in makeup looks much more like 24 year old ryuichi than current ryuichi for sure)
  • having the original members appear would have people be like “ah, these old men are still around?” but having actors cosplay them will generate more positive buzz. Generally the consensus seems to be “woah they recreated the PV perfectly”
some unserious guesses:
  • because sugizo doesn’t eat fast food (he is generally gluten free and organic-only) and appearing in a mcdonalds commercial would by hypocritical
  • maybe they needed all the actors in the CM to be un-inked for some reason

Was wondering the same as the persona he “sells” doesnt seem to be much in line with what McDonalds “represents” (no idea about the other members)

Yeah, definitely. If you watch the reaction video they uploaded, sugizo doesn’t react to what the commercial is selling and only comments on how well they recreated the PV.

Rosier never made it in the west because it wasn’t about cheeseburgers. This ad may not air to Americans, but it is clearly targeted at the American spirit.
