B7KLAN J-Rock Fest (Visual Kei festival) in Paris will be held (10 bands, July 11-12)

I don’t get the hype at all after seeing them perform. I respect it but don’t understand.

All in all, I was impressed with the production and the bands.

I know some production issues (weird YT copyright stuff?) delayed Nyx and caused the livestream audience to miss a couple minutes of their set… but overall it was good. I was half worried it would be someone’s cell phone on a tripod at the back of the venue situation, but sound mixing was pretty good. Not great but wayyy better than many live videos and esp. streams. I know why they erred on the side of ‘basically none’ for ambient noise but I would’ve preferred just a little more sound from the audience in the stream. Multiple camera angles. Pretty good diversity among the sounds of the bands.

I have nothing at stake since I’m not going to the fest but seeing a professionally filmed show at a small VK livehouse streamed was cool.

I don’t regret waking up early AF to watch. I’ll be checking out some of the bands, I was unfamiliar with most but was really digging some of them!

Why didn’t they just go with XANVALA? Some of these bands are honestly terrible live, and one of them’s probably going to win. It’s ridiculous.

XANVALA have their tour final one-man on July 10th. Since they announced it at the end of January, I was pretty certain they wouldn’t be up for the contest (and I found out later, there’s a one-man for NICOLAS on the same day and figured it would result in the same). If these bands were basically up for it they probably didn’t apply for that reason.

The band had to apply to enter the audition, if they’re not there it means they didn’t.

So the question is “why didn’t XANVALA apply”

I meant from the beginning. I voted for mama. The vocals aren’t the best, but I like their music.

But maybe they asked XANVALA and the band declined because plans for the tour were already set. We don’t know who got asked in the first place.

I really like that Roku from Gravity marched up to the camera and thanked the fans. Asserting that they will be in Paris. They’re a nice bunch of boys I really hope they get a chance too

I was just able to check in sporadically because i was at work, so therefore i have not seen any performance in its entirety (except sugar), but what i have heard and seen, none of the bands sounded particularly “good”, which makes me sad…did i outgrow modern vk? I like my veterans, but these newer and younger acts seem very amateurish to me! At least live >< i listened to all of them in preparation for this contest and some were quite alright on record

I am aware that the live mix wasnt all that great either, but seriously, some of them need to work on their craftmanship. You want to be a musician? Than better step up your game and put in the hours to develop your skills and techniques

Visually, the stream was top tier tho, with the dynamic camerawork and different angles and such

Currently catching up (I’m at Orseas), the mix is atrocious, but hey, what’s more vkei than that? So far, only MAMA. really got my attention. (But I’m biased towards them as they’re the only band I already seen live) Sugar wasn’t bad either, but the voice was ROUGH.

Can’t wait to watch Akai Yuurei and Mushozoku!

I thought all bands were really good in their own way. Definitely a lineup I would be excited to watch in reality and not just on screen

This is such a small part of modern vk and most bands here are really on the lesser known end. It’s not representative.

The camera wouldn’t focus but it was really sweet and Roku held a phone up showing the chat

To me, mama. sounded the best live.

Akai yurei was a surprise, very interesting project. Orseas was also a surprise to me, because I didn’t like their releases that much, but they sounded good live.

Torikabuto and sugar were the ones where I enjoyed the studio releases but they were quite disappointing live.

I get the appeal of I to rito, but honestly, they also sounded quite bad.

Will go a bit off top but about a week ago me and my friend booked our flights to Paris and back and an Airbnb.

Now just crossing fingers things will go well

Is the Live stream up on the channel? Wanna check it out after work.

I only saw Torikabuto before I headed to work.

Yes!

Can you recommend me some bands you consider really good? Literally more than 80% of bands that started after 2020, which i checked out, have either very untrained, often annoying vocals, or uninspired generic instrumentals (sometimes both)

I would be delighted to find new artists i can enjoy ^^ i mean, there are a few i can vibe with…for example, out of the 8 finalists i think sugar, mushozoku and mama are decent, gravity is also not bad, but far from original or outstanding

doing some propaganda there :eyes:

discovered recently that the vocalist is some dude who used to pop up on my YT last years for his Gackt/Malice mizer ( and others ) covers ( very talented, great voice ). So there is that as well.

my two cents on this is that overall be it in VK or other genres, I just think newer generations prefer to popularize how cunty and cool/good looking a band is rather than how really talented they are ( aka good writing, pretty, beautiful ( and not just average/bad ) vocals, and real good musicians ).
Somehow the issue is mostly linked to vocalist rather than the other musicians even tho musicians too seems pretty mid in those newer bands as well ( not pointing fingers at anyone just a general observation ), but that’s a subject for another time I guess.

PS : sorry but I seriously absolutely couldn’t with the vocal of the guy with a face mask, damn
