When I got it I was like “finally, I can be finished with blowing money on vinyl.”

That didn’t stick, but it was a nice thought!

Can’t wait for the ARCHE LP in 2039…

Me too. I have the boxed set with the CD and DVD, but there’s a few spots on both records where the frequency response has a drastic shift mid-song, losing a bunch of high frequencies. Idk if it’s just my copy or a general error in the master lacquer, but it’s jarring, happens on 1 side of both records, and kills the energy in Shinya’s cymbal hits. A repress without the error would be lovely

But then again, there’s that error in all of the re-issue pressings of Gauze…

You talking about Cage?

THE VERY ONE

I mean if it’s in the CD press of it too then it maybe is how that part was recorded at that time .

They would prob have to re-record that part. Maybe you could try to mess with the eq or levels to see what comes out decent.

Nah, just in the vinyl pressing  My digital downloads and my CD rips of DSS have no issue in those parts whatsoever

I remember when I first noticed it, I was trying to read and it fully pulled me out of my book. I pulled out my computer and hooked it into the same speakers my turntable are connected to, played the same spots on the album, and there was no issue. And I’d never heard that in the YEARS of listening to the album before I had a turntable to play the vinyl copy on. So I’m left to conclude it’s the record pressing

Can confirm. Same issue on my copy. Same place. It’s a pressing error. Which is why I’m waiting on preordering this. Poor audio QA and lazy upscaling jobs is not worth 8,000 yen + shipping to me.

Not trying to dampen the party but gotta draw a line at being a careful consumer somewhere!

I pre-ordered because I have zero self control and the tismatic hyperfixation does what the tismatic hyperfixation will do. But I def can’t fault anybody for being cautious, either.

I’m just happy to own it because the idea of having Bigger Macabre makes me smile.

I like that they’re reissuing their back catalog on vinyl, but I don’t like that they’re half-assing it. Rather, the label who I’m assuming is probably behind these reissues. It’s not clear how involved the band is with the process.

I know the DSS pressing is an older release, and the Gauze+ pressings only have that one minor pressing error. Hopefully moving forward things are more like the PHALARIS pressing, which I don’t have physically but the rip I have from somebody else sounds just fine.

But yeah I really hope moving forward there’s better QC on these

I’ve got the Phalaris record and it sounds good to my ears. I didn’t spend much time with the digital release though.

I hope they adjust the price going forward too. Phalaris was like 6000Y. These reissues are 8000Y a pop with no discernable added value. Agreed though. Crossed fingers they at least the sound quality right.

The rip somebody provided me of their PHALARIS vinyl pressing sounded vastly different to the digital release, in a good way imo. Compared to Brian Gardner’s master for the digital releases, Tohru Kotetsu’s master for the LP release sounds more powerful to me, largely because it allows transients to be punchier and less flattened out

I’m very jealous of you and others who physically have it lol. I’m probably gonna buy one of the copies for sale on Discogs at some point

Love hearing your thoughts on the sound. Their vinyl releases have always had some good mastering (yes even Uroboros…) and I’ve always preferred them to the digital releases. Although, they’re not without their flaws as you mentioned.

I didn’t realize it was hard to get a hold of. Last time I checked on HMV JP (where I bought it) you could still get it and even the deluxe version of DSS. I figured it didn’t do so well on the vinyl market. I guess it’s been 2 years since it released. Hope you find a copy!
