DIR EN GREY

Me too, though I understand why so many people diss it. For a lot of people it was like, the turning point where the band really departed away from their original sound, and some people even fell off entirely at that point (I think the old Tattered Cloth blog’s last ever post was about not liking Drain Away lmao)

I do dig the song though and don’t share all the hate it gets.

More people need to listen to MACABRE obviously…it’s a travesty that we don’t get to hear one of their best songs live. Fucking DRAIN AWAY? Really?

i like drain away well enough, it’s a sweet and pleasant song and i don’t skip it when it comes up, but paired against egnirys cimredopyh i just can’t understand why it would be picked!

Although I do crank the volume whenever I hear “DRAIN AWAY” in the car, it’s almost hurtful to me to watch these voters… be so… dumb! Like “egnirys” is a song that’s less likely to be performed; like how?!!

Ready for this show to be nothing but Greatest Hits / singles.

Well, at least fans had decency to vote for Kigan over NWK.
And also Undecided over The Fatal Believer.

I wish I could give half hearts here lol. Cause yeah, thank GOD Kigan won, but The Fatal Believer is nothing short of euphoric imo. I’d listen to an entire setlist of that song and come out grateful.

Considering that I added second half of the post later (about The Fatal Believer) i now feel stupid.
But dunno. Maybe I should hear it live before pushing it away.

I am here to enlist in the anti-Fatal Believer contingent in the DEG civil war, sorry guys

Nah lol, if it’s not for you it’s not for you. undecided is a bop, I just have an outsized love for tmoab, even the parts where it’s objectively shit.

@Missa
…How could you?

Fatal Believer is super solid but unremarkable. it’s junk food. I love it.

Was going to post this in the PHALARIS thread but didn’t want to derail.

Remixes can be great, though. Here are some that I enjoy:

Akuro no Oka (K.N.Y. mix)
ain’t afraid to die (Irresistible Mix)
egnirys cimredopyh +)an injection (PCM re-constructed attack)
逆上堪能ケロイドミルク (plucking: Mr. NEWSMAN) -NEW JAP MIX-
All of TMOAB disc 2. Namamekashiki Ansoku… is incredible.
DECAYED CROW (remix by Kyo)
VANITAS (LOS AWKIS Folklore Ver.)

GAUZE remixes are totally my thing except for the Yurameki mix which could’ve been half the length.
MACABRE remixes are absolute garbage. I don’t get why they threw random people talking over every track.
改-KAI- was average. Okay but forgettable mostly. The Ratsetsukoku mix is annoying as heck, and the (good) ain’t afraid to die mixes were already on the single.
All of the 鬼葬 -kisou- era mixes are quite interesting and lean more heavily into the lo-fi electronic side of that album.
UROBOROS remixes tried to recapture what TMOAB did but were nowhere near as good.
I quite like the DSS mixes overall. Unfortunately, the Symphonic versions are just dire.
ARCHE mixes are decent to average. The Revelation of mankind dubstep mix on the Utafumi single is soulless trash.

The worst time for b-sides imo was during Wtd and TMOAB, where the singles were filled with pretty bad live performances (G.D.S. aside).

I come from an experimental/industrial/electronica background, which probably explains why 鬼葬 -kisou- is my favourite album and why I seem to be the only person alive who is in love with NARASAKI’s harsh noise DECAYED CROW remix.

I agree that remixes can be bad but they don’t have to be. Give a song’s stems to the right person who understands the material, and the results can end up pretty fantastic.

That said, I’d prefer re-recordings or alt takes. Get the guys in a room and record an EP of acoustic tracks in one take. Easy money right there.

Zan D.P.Y Mix one of the more underrated Diru B sides.

I actually quite like a good handful of the remixes tp be honest. There are a lot of okay ones and a few straight flops but there are some pretty interesting tracks as well.

Yo that Zan remix is fire. Used to listen to it more than the original.

I’m actually a fan of the Macabre era remixes, with “[KR] cube (-K.K. Vomit Mix-)” being my favorite as it’s a Dnb remix. The “Taiyou no ao” remix is not great though and could’ve been saved if they just stuck with the acoustic take.

I thought the samples of the actual tracks were used quite creatively throughout and whoever did the remixes laid down some solid beats. And come one, I can’t be the only one who wanted that nokia-style ringtone of “Myaku”.

At the time, it was simple enough (albeit time-consuming) to program tunes directly into your phone.

Couldn’t work out how to get the exact soundfont. This is the best I can do for now.

To be fair, out of these remixes I like only Namamekashiki & Vanitas mostly because they are more of covers than remixes, which don’t reconstruct the song too much.
Would throw this awesome jazzy cover of Yokusou to the mix as well:

TMOAB and UROBOROS disc 2 were actually unplugged discs, not remixes, and advertised as such. Escpecially the songs from TMOAB are slower/ballad-ish songs, which work well as unplugged versions (unlike ASOM)

They’re remixes. Even if the instrumentation is different, the vocal takes are exactly the same.

… with the exception of RED SOIL on UROBOROS disc 2, which is a re-recording (and DOZING GREEN Before Construction, which is a demo).
