I think this perfectly encapsulates the issue with Dir en grey trying to reach an international audience: it’s all half-assed and lazy. They have a long history of this.
There was a brief period of time (2006 - 2008ish?) when they had some cool shirts in stores like Hot Topic, but then they were like “Hey, you guys want a shirt of a samurai fighting a hentai tentacle monster?” and it’s all been downhill since.

Is that really the best they could come up with? Geist summed it up nicely - that merch is so half assed and lazy AF. 10 bucks for a cheap ass coaster? Fans could come up with better stuff in like a few mins. Terrible. Don’t support this low effort crap.

New to this forum but not to Diru.
They mentioned the poll they posted on Youtube some time ago where they ask oversea fans a bunch of stuff including questions about merch and my theory is a lot of people are just very basic in their merch wishes and asked for this stuff. (Not the prices, tho)
I mean, a one color shirt with just the band name isn’t that bad if it is made in a good way (which these are not). Some years ago they had a great crimson red one with the band name in golden letters. It looked fantastic and til this day I hate myself for not spending 60.00 Yen on it.
What keeps me wondering is why making a diffrent store. It’s not really hard to use a proxy to buy from the galaxy broad shop.

My Dir en grey hoodie came in the mail, just one problem……
I mean…at least it’s unique? Maybe I got my money’s worth after all!
