First Visual Kei festival in Paris will be held (10 bands, July 11-12)

Maybe I missed it, but where did they say they announce it by popularity? I know that’s usually how it’s done I guess, however I’m too much out of the loop perhaps, but I had the impression that Jiluka is like super popular right now?

No they didn’t haha And popularity isn’t the right word, because yes, JILUKA right now are more popular than let’s say An Cafe or LM.C here. But both are way bigger bands than JILUKA overall; 20+ years of activities, both played and filled the Budokan, extensive abroad touring, etc… So I’m guessing they’re taking all of that in to chose how they announce them! But maybe I’m totally wrong and we already have our headliners lmao

They seem to be focused on popularity abroad.
Despa weren’t more popular than An cafe, LM.C, or Kizu in Japan, but they rode one of the biggest waves of overseas visual kei popularity.

Jiluka seem to be more popular abroad, but mostly visually rather than musically. Their viral tracks tend to reach people outside the visual kei scene, and that audience is unlikely to be interested in a visual kei festival.

If you’re right, I’m curious to see who they deem more popular haha
We’ll find out soon enough. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I guess there’s a distinction between “more popular” and “bigger deal”.

Jiluka are more popular amongst newer fans, yes. But given their frequent overseas touring in the past couple years, I don’t know if you could call their announcement here a big deal.

Whereas the three most recent bands took a long break from overseas performing (and for D’espairsRay and An Cafe, a break from performing all together)

Today and 7th band is MUCC

I’m going to cry. This lineup was made for me :sob:

True, for me it’s 2009 knocking on the door (I’ve seen An Cafe and Mucc that year when they were in Germany)

It’s a taste of chaos reunion for us Americans lol

Yeah, also being 32, if the rest of the announcements are along the lines of, for example, kamijo/versailles, gazette/dir en grey, Moi dix mois, then I and the other Europeans alive in the 2000s have already seen the majority of the lineup. I think pretty much everything except Azavana and Kizu

Watch them announce defspiral next :skull:

I’m the same age, but living in the countryside meant I didn’t see that many artists unfortunately (traveling that far alone wasn’t something my parents liked me doing). Makes it even funnier to me it’s those who I managed to go to see

Alright so the next should be the headliners right? :eyes:

Not yet, we have 3 bands left for 2 headlining spots!

With practically only the headliners left ( as we can assume they will announce the biggest bands last) it’s safe to say this festival is aiming for fans with 10+ years in the scene.MUCC is a very good pick. now let’s see if Tatsuro is going to give his famous japanese lessons to foreign audiences.

He’ll forever have a soft spot in my heart! He saw how nervous I was during the meet n greet and asked if I was okay and extended a hug :people_hugging:

They haven’t toured here since 2008!
