An old tunein station I found years ago called jrockradio
I’ve seen a lot of new faces, but old faces are laying low now. So how many years, months, days have you been listening to VK.
I’ll start, 1999; hide - pink spider.
2008!
November 2004 with L’Arc, so I was three months away from being 15. My first albums were SMILE and AWAKE and I guess as far as bands who kept the atheistic would be 2005 with X Japan’s Best of X B.O.X. and Diru’s Withering to death. (Import, first thing I ever imported and took a month to get there.).
2011; i still feel new to it
first album was ナイトメア’s Ultimate Circus, but i remember checking their OHP when they were promoting Vermilion
Took the plunge in the late summer of 2004! Atsushi Sakurai (solo), Dir en grey, MALICE MIZER, Kagerou, BAISER, Noir fleurir, Dué le quartz music videos were my first exposures, and then the rest is history…
Guess I’m a young’un compared to everyone else. I think it was 2016/2017? Got into the genre via Miyavi, itoshii hito. Then Alice nine, gazette, Diru, d’espairsray became my four main bands.
too long
1986 obviously.
It would be since 2009/2010. My sister got pack of music by bluetooth on her phone from her friend. There was something like “death note op2 full”. I instantly loved that and tried to find out more about it. Btw, Also i started watching anime because this one song. I wanted to find MVs from Maximum the Hormone, then Youtube has suggested me Invisible Wall by The GazettE. Firstly, i felt disoriented and disappointed, because i wanted some agressive songs like MTH, not “dolly” boys. After few days, I has rewatched Invisible Wall because i could humming this song almost by all day. Next few days, I have started appreciating this kind of looks And then I found out Mejibray and whole genre. So I am here
Also '09/'10 since it was a transition to vk from other adjacent j-rock/pop.
Visual Kei: Janne Da Arc - ダイヤモンドヴァージン (Diamond Virgin)
J-rock: UVERworld - D-TecnoLife
2006
2006 by MUCC’s Kuchiki no tou and Houyoku (don’t know which song’s been the first, both albums got played at the place I’ve regularly been to and I started liking the music).
2004ish Vividly remember seeing Gackt’s Mizerable PV on youtube and that was the point of no return
Diamond Virgin is Cheffs Kisss <3
2011 w/ the always powerful Megaromania
Been listening to VK since 2005 and the first band I listened to was D’espairsRay and their [Coll:set] album (my best friend had recommended it to me). I remember I found it so good and then I had to check out other VK bands on YouTube. Until now I never really took a break from VK, the only thing that’s changed I’ve gotten older by the time xD
My first true vk memory was when I saw a Miyavi music video on Around the World on Fuse and I knew of Gackt many years ago when I was a kid (and of course I watched Death Note, where Nightmare performed the theme songs). However, I discovered the term visual kei years later and fully got into it around 2011-2012 when I was still in high school. My first bands were Versailles, Malice Mizer, Moi dix Mois, Megaromania, Merry, and Da’vid shito:aL.
These days, I stick with kotekei, osarekei, and some kirakira-kei bands, and I’ve been listening to non-vk jrock as well, it’s a nice refresher.
At the least 22 years but possibly 23. I can’t remember the early years too well, but I definitely had Dir en grey images saved from early 2000. Early bands were Dir en grey, Pierrot, Penicillin, Janne da Arc, Malice Mizer, and a few others I’m sure.
Wish i could remember it better but that’s all I got sadly.
