My native language is Italian! But since I was little I’ve been learning other languages, both in school and by myself, so I also speak English fluently (I’ve been studying it since I was 5 and now I’m 30 lol).
I also speak German and French, learned them in high school but I don’t consider myself fluent…if I read it it’s ok, but when I hear it spoken it’s a bit more difficult.
Then at university I learned Japanese, so I can speak somewhat fluently even though I haven’t used it in ages apart from songs and/or drama/anime.
Last but not least, I recently learned Romanian by myself! It was pretty easy, since it has the same root as Italian but I still have to perfect it a little bit.
I think that’s it (?)…oh right, I would love to learn more but then I would start confusing them all lol

does it count as speak if you’re like “THEY SAID KOKORO IS IT SOMETHING ABOUT THE HEART” or only if you have a respectable comprehension level? I feel like with my thousands of hours of anime music and seiyuu stuff training my level of japanese should be way better but I am here struggling with reading a bl manga so its really … not … also screw grammar
portuguese and english crew here, also my spanish lessons in middle school which I took very seriously still help me ask for materials in spanish speaking ppl’s genshin worlds but that’s about it. I also learned some local sign language in uni but wasn’t half as serious about it and recall nothing lol (it only JUST hit me that I gave the same reply years ago … nothing’s changed, except nowadays I have more time to study languages. still ain’t studying though, did some classes and quit it again bc I can’t help but stress over I NEED A JOB NOT RANDOM HOBBIES and then do nothing useful, and then once I get a job I’ll be like aww no time to do anything

vietnamese was very hard but thankfully i only use the basics of please / thank you / dish names. i also still mix up masculine hi vs femme hi (like girl to guy / guy to girl) but they don’t seem to mind??? i think it’s mostly them excited a foreigner is trying lol
realized i do the same in japanese with alternating between atashi or boku and it’s been hysterical watching confused faces. i promise i don’t do it for trolling purposes it’s just easier than explaining genderfluid

comfortably trilingual here - English/Japanese/a third one. Used to use all 3 at work in my home country but now my work in japan is just english/japanese. Learned a 4th at school until my teens but I can only read basic stuff in it now, so it doesn’t count. I also took a little bit german in uni but I can only order food and stuff so it doesn’t count either lol
As a croatian I can speak croatian ofc but since the balkan languages are so similar i can also speak/read serbian and bosnian.
I grew up in switzerland so german and swiss german are like native to me (i still count in german and sometimes i think in german or swiss).
I used to learn french in school and could speak and understand it very well but since my school days I have never used the language and now nearly all knowledge is lost, although when I concentrate and read slowly I can get the context.
And of course english.
Born in Singapore and fluent in English and mandarin. Tried picking up Korean for a yr in a Korean language school but I gave up bc it was just too much effort for me.

Ooooh naiseee. Finding a sgrean who likes vkei is like finding a needle in a haystack like we are some kind of special breed. The only vkei that comes to their mind is X Japan that’s all.
It’s interesting you mentioned this because I do feel like this occasionally, but as fate would have it, I’d run into Singaporean Vkei fans from time to time. My entryway into vkei was really through Singaporean fans. I recall first being exposed to Vkei via Vkei-inspired bands in Singapore in the early 2000s when there were reality competitions. Guren is one of my favourite Gazette songs because I first heard it covered by a Singaporean band!
I think I got very lucky because somehow did manage to acquaint myself with several fans in SG, and my friend circle tend to have some form of exposure to vkei, even if they’re not exactly diehard fans. (Thanks, anime!) I think we did have some kind of scene back then, with bands coming to SG and even street teams, I think there was one for Luna Sea. I went to the Sugizo x Inoran one many years back.
However, in recent years, fans have been scattered or perhaps gone into other fandoms, and I don’t see the same kind of unity or community. It remains to be seen whether this resurgence in popularity helps, I’d honestly love to see a vkei band make it here, even if I know in my heart my ultimate favourites probably won’t pop by anytime soon.

Yayyy I got to learn abt vkei during that period too but in the late 2000s. My friend showed me some lives from the gazette and I got hooked on. Aside from this friend I didn’t have any friends who knew abt vkei even until now. When they ask me what kind of music I listen to I tell them that my kind of music is from a Japanese metal band who likes to shout one. Then they respond by saying “huh like that nice meh?” So ya u were quite lucky back then to have found the right community of ppl with similar interests. The ppl I know just prefer mainstream music like mandopop and kpop
