I’m sure they made out ahead, good for them. Some people are grumbling about organization, venue staff, etc.
I wasn’t there myself, but most of the complaints people had on Twitter came down to “these VK specific concert tropes weren’t followed by the crowd/venue staff”. Well, yes? This warehouse Metal venue probably doesn’t have a set policy on people giving the musicians gifts, because it almost never happens.
Didn’t like that non-VK metal bands were there? Jiluka collaborate with non VK metal bands back in Japan, too. Sure, another VK band might get most of the audience more excited, but they’re working with what’s causing the least amount of headache and that’s partnering with locals.
Yep. Another thing brought up (by a couple of different people) was concerns about being shushed by staff in LA and Poland when they started cheering for an encore.
My question is…how were they cheering for an encore? If it’s how I suspect, then I’m not surprised that staff may have been a bit weirded out. Particularly the American ones.
Every so often I have to link this post that I wrote because in all honesty, visual kei “fans” not accepting anything that doesn’t fit their narrow definition is a tale as old as time.
I screamed encore at the top of my lungs and no one stopped me. I don’t know who would shush someone like that.
We shouted “ji-lu-ka” “encore” “one more song” and I admit, I led chants for encore in the jrock style, just like we do at dir en grey and gazette when they come to LA.
Strange.
I am not surprised to hear some people took to Twitter to complain, but as someone who was there I can say most people had a blast.
All of the openers for that show were either in association with Fakestar or the venue itself, and fit a general idea of metal. People will complain about openers no matter what though.
Good point. For me, I feel like seeing them once I get the idea, I don’t think I could go again. I feel like at the LA show there was a fair portion of the audience that were just curious metal fans.
We’ll have to see if they made an impression.
I really hope it does go well, but I’d just caution them about assuming that their fanbase overseas is as prepared to always come to their shows as the local fanbase. Especially at the high prices that they charged the first time.
