lynch. - GREEDY DEAD SOULS / UNDERNEATH THE SKIN / GOD ONLY KNOWS

the one at the start of the song? idk… I think that’s just the same vocal take from their last remake of the song

Wow, a lot of people have already put my thoughts into words but yeah, this turned out to be a lot more enjoyable than I thought it would be. I’m so pleased. I still prefer the original versions but I’m just glad that I’m not disappointed. I think it’s a wonderful homage to their early days.

It has the exact same production as the most recent Sadie best-ofs. Right down to the guitar re-amps, and drum samples. You know what? It kicks ass. I’m okay with these legacy bands/albums getting this kinda treatment. Gives new value to these songs, while preserving it.

Thanks again, Ryo; you saved Visual-Kei.

I think the remakes I’m feeling the most are Mejun to Kara, RASEN, MELT, & A GRATEFUL SHIT. Sleepy Flow lost the amen break tho, and theres no Darkness intro for Vernie. Other than that? GDS - 9/10, UtS - 9/10, GOK - 9/10.

You have no idea – this album being re-visited is a huge deal to a lot of us old heads who have been with Hazuki since he quit Deathgaze in 2004. A lot of us liked Hybrid Zombiez, or needed to fill a gap when GULLET disbanded and Ryo went straight back to graphic design for 6 years.

This is a real nice time capsule, and it’s beautifully done.

Is The Whirl actually remixed from the SINNERS -no one can fake my blood- version?

Gotta say, I really enjoyed this retake package! Brought back some nice memories, while also feeling a bit fresh. The inclusion of some rare or unreleased tracks was also a good move. Hard to say if I’ll listen to these new versions as much as the original ones, but to me this felt like a proper celebration of the band’s roots.

lyncharoni. delivers!

I’m gonna go against the grain for a minute here. Perhaps I’m deaf, but I never heard the difference in sound between greedy dead souls and say, SHADOWS. It’s all been one very consistent line from day one and everything sounds like lynch. because Hazuki has been a commanding force in the unit since day one. I also don’t like greedy dead souls much. This one is backed up by fact - I have almost 2000 scrobbles of lynch and less than 150 scrobbles of greedy dead souls (2004). I bang with vernie and quarter life but the rest of the album loses me.

So it shouldn’t be surprising when I say this is the first time that I’ve listened to GDS in one sit since 2014. I am pleasantly surprised at how my perception of this album changes. lynch.'s maturity brings out aspects of the album that was not fleshed out as much the first time around. That new lead guitar on vernie is tasty. I was cleaning my house and went “what is that” when I heard new leads that wasn’t there the first time. The voices that Hazuki employs in 59. and DISCORD NUMBER help the album feel different and the songs feel distinct. Unfortunately, Latin Maria is still boring, but they can’t be blamed too much since it’s their first ballad. I also find the freak out in quarter life weak, but at least it’s better than the version on THE BURIED which cut it all out.

I was more excited for UNDERNEATH THE SKIN and GOD ONLY KNOWS aka disc two and three. The first one I mentioned suffers from all the scarcity issues and streaming unavailability as GREEDY DEAD SOULS, but to top it off all the rips floating around are of such low quality. I’ve never been able to enjoy this mini album as a result and I have even less listens logged of the original Underneath the Skin. This is almost a brand new EP to me with familiar songs. I’m loving this much more! GOD ONLY KNOWS feels straight out of SHADOWS era lynch., and is pretty much more of the same, so take it or leave it. I personally don’t mind lynch.'s sound so I enjoy the track, but I have to admit that the extra tracks are the real draw. A retake of A GRATEFUL SHIT? I never thought I’d see the day! An official title for the untitled track, even if it translates to untitled, is another great surprise. All these B-sides are still fun! This is the bow on top.

This is shaping up to be on my 2025 List for sure!
