Dude has been living in Los Angeles, owning and operating a studio with 100% American staff, and having 1 on 1 classes with the best private tutors - all of that since 1991. You are giving him WAY too much credit.
You have your opinion, and I have mine. I’ll leave it at that.
Yoshiki’s goofy affectation and cadence don’t do him any favors, but his English is totally fine & he seems comfortable speaking it.
everyone itt should just go back to “the last rockstars bad”, that one always kills
Still… he should be better.
There are many young japanese youtubers who… ah I guess there is no need to start giving examples of who is better or not BUT… he simply should better after living abroad all these years + exactly what Dotas96_NL mentioned.
I know its a bit of a “who cares”… But… but… he should be better.
Ehh its fine, hes obviously fluent and clear when speaking. He just speaks like hes some tortued artist.
Making this comparison between cases without understanding the differences in their learning path and enviroments as well as individual skillset is kind of nonsensical though.
Well yeah I’m sorry I didnt mean to be toxic it was just so cringe to see that interview. I just wonder why someone like that who “should” be really good at english isn’t it. Like even if he didn’t actively study english it should come naturally while living in america, working with americans all day, etc. But, yeah, sorry no offense. Ill chill about it.
For example: Gackt lives in Singapore, apparently studied some english on his own… and here is an interview with him:
Also, their age - it’s not uncommon pretty much everywhere that young people on average tend to be better in english when speaking it as a second language than older generations.
Edit: Also, in Yoshiki’s case, I think it’s more of an accent problem. To me it seems like he understands anything, but having a rather strong accent his English might come of “worse” than it is.
Haven’t watched the whole video though and I am not that familiar with his language skills as I rarely watch Interviews, etc. with him.
Yoshiki speaks English well, but his diction is odd. His thin voice doesn’t help either. On the other hand, I’m impressed by GACKT’s level in this interview. And he exudes confidence and humor in this interview. This guy has an astonishing aptitude for learning, speaks five languages, and is a multi-instrumentalist. A little genius, in short.
Damn I completely forgot this interview existed xD
Yoshiki to receive Entertainment Community Fund Medal of Honor
If it’s good enough for Taft, it’s good enough for Yoshiki!
Why does he have a filter on his face only in the closeup shot?
My guess is that its his “team” that films and edits etc, and they add a “photoshop” filter to hide any kind of imperfections on Gackt’s skin. Remember that Gackt has to keep up the image of being perfect, almost godlike entity with zero faults.
I don’t really get it. But do you think he deserves/should have the medal?
My dudes… “deserving” has nothing to do with it. All this stuff is Pay for Play.
The Medal of Honor is presented to individuals and organizations that enrich the entertainment community.
How would he not qualify for this? At the very least, this thread is entertaining enough to make a compelling case on its own.
You don’t even have to get stuck in a bath tub to win the award these days.
