I know what it means in modern English, I was posting the etymology of it for the benefit of the user who suggested it was a synonym for injustice, which it is not
The case against Kuruto has been dismissed.
Official statement
Kuruto’s statement
Shohei’s statement
Shouhei statement rough translation:
"This is to everyone who supports me, including myself, in this matter.
I’m really sorry that I caused you worry and cuased trouble.
When I heard that there was no prosecution, various feelings were born for various people.
It’s going to take some time before i can fully sort out my feelings.
What i can say now is to the people who face this matter, I never lied in my feelings at the time i told you.
The goal is to make arlequin a bigger band.
It means that we will remain strong so that we can attract more wonderful scenery to everyone.
I will continue to work harder from now on.
Thank you again for Arlequin "
Shohei.
Kuroto statement rough translation:
"I don’t think I can change the fact that I betrayed you.
I vow to never let something like this happen in the future, and I will be even more careful in my activities."
Kuruto
Hm well it took a while as expected but there you go
The result doesn’t matter anymore, this case created one of the greatest fan name of all time, Japanese fans called them アルル姦 now (姦=rape)
Did they really lost fans with this story ?
Certainly didn’t gain any.
Idk i feel like in some cases people get set up and in some cases its legit. Honestly some vkei fans are rich enough to stage sht so it could be hard to tell at some points same with techonology being the way it is and fake messaging etc…
I guess thats why some band labels are very strict with some bands like Face Japan Music for example: The label did not allow any band signed to them to interact with fans, take personal photos or sign autographs. Nothing.
Overall i think since the judge declared there isnt enough evidence to convict him and the case was dropped then i guess nothing happened who knows. I didnt expect arlequin to be a band full of drama.
I’ll preface this by saying that I’m not talking about this case in particular because I didn’t follow it, but a result like this just means that there wasn’t enough evidence to prove 100% that something did happen. Cases (like this, murder, whatever you go to court for) get thrown out constantly because of lack of evidence in pretty much every country that has a justice system.
I definitely can say I lost my trust in them.
I don’t think I really have an interest anymore in buying any of their discography which I might have done otherwise.
Horrible situation all around, Aki should get out while he’s ahead and start anew.
I’ve been bored and avoiding chores today, so instead I got some drinks and read through this thread.
Based on everything posted here, if I was a fan I’d drop them. Kuruto himself basically admitted that something did happen, he’s just insisting it was consentual. If she was shit-faced, she was unable to consent to anything. If she was passed out drunk she was definitely unable to consent to anything.
Even her boyfriend believed her, but instead of helping her in any way he just told her to keep quiet to save his career and kept working with Kuruto. I really don’t know how someone can do that. Hopefully she has since dumped him and is in a safe place surrounded by people who support her, this outcome must be mentally exhausting.
I got roasted by a small corner on Twitter for daring to suggest people wait until jumping to conclusions. But now is the time and with little more info to go on, this is the one to jump to. Either that, or the tinfoil theory of “promo stunt” and none of this happened. I similarly no longer care for their music after all this.
The promo stunt theory is stupid because what kind of moron running the PR department thinks something like this would work in their favour? Especially since a good portion of vkei fans seem to be women, both in Japan and overseas. I personally wouldn’t feel comfortable or safe attending lives of a band who condones something like this, or interacting with the members, be it irl or on social media.
Arlequinwent from band I love to band I hate, like poop I can’t think of a band/brand that went from beloved to hated. Harvey Weinstein maybe?
Bill Cosby or R. Kelly? Or maybe Blizzard? (All of these examples lost their reputations doing the same thing, damn)
It’s an extremely stupid theory, but it’s 2023. There are almost no limits to what desperate people would do for attention. The whole “no press is bad press” kinda theory. Another potential one is that she got pressured and/or paid off (potentially by the record label) to drop the case. This whole story wraps up neatly with no additional details and no one getting in trouble. This doesn’t mesh well with the shame-based economy that is potential Twitter cancellation. I think they’re all different, plausible, but equally as stupid decisions that lead to the same rational outcomes. This is really one of those times where you have to look twice and remember visual kei has those bad sides sometimes too. Fuckin’ sucks no matter how it’s sliced.
I also had some drinks and my only contribution to this topic is that they always sucked and now they suck even more Kuruto’s vague statement doesn’t really sit right with me.
I wouldnt rely on japans justice system in a case like this as much as i like them, ill be huffing copium and hoping aki isnt a terrible person
