キズ - JP: PARASITE/鳳凰

How are y’all feeling about these bones the boys threw us?

I can sum up my feelings on them pretty succinctly: it’s…Kizu.

Like, Houou is just a faster Ame Otoko, and JP: PARASITE is final boss music for a JRPG. Two very serviceable songs, nothing breathtaking.

Sound off! Do you love them? Hate them? Wish that Lime would just suck up his perfectionist bollocks? “Who is Kizu?” Are they better than Mortal Downer? Do you enjoy foodstuffs like aged cheese?

Another good Kizu songs that you can listen to. They don’t stick with me like Juusei or Oshimai tho, for example.

I don’t know. I probably have to listen to them some more. Sometimes it takes a bit of time to enjoy it to the fullest.

JP PARASITE is one of their best songs. It sounds even stronger if you understand the meaning.

Houou could have been a really good song, but I just keep waiting for the ending, which is the strongest part with a unique melody and amazing vocal phrasing. There are other good parts too, but for the first time with them I don’t feel the same sense of cohesion and freshness.

And even as a big fan of Lime’s vocals, I got tired of the constant vocal presence. The song feels unnecessarily long, and the chorus seems to lack drive.

JP parasite is Kizu slop.
Houou is an amazing track in every regards beside the first section of the refrain.

Tbh excatly my thoughts. It’s Kizu and it sounds exactly like songs they have already done.

Also Lime’s favorite word is inochi

To my surprise I liked Mortal Downer better. Before Kizu felt fresher than Diru. Unsurprisingly after 11 albums. But this time, even tho Diru didn’t invent the wheel again, I liked what they did better.

I do like aged cheese a lot :cheese_wedge:

Excellent.

At this point i decided to not listen them until the album come out on August. I’m not a fan of hear much material before the album release.

Oh I like JP:Parasite!! Admittedly I only like two songs by kizu - uramibushi and pierce ni hood, I want to click with more but it just isn’t for me. I’m hopeful for the album if it sounds like this tho!!

The story LIME shared about JP:PARASITE kinda touched me, so IDK if my feeling for that one is conflating with that. Otherwise thought it was generic, probably fits better in the album.

Got a link for that interview?

I’m having trouble accessing it, sorry. But it’s specifically about how his hamster’s death affected him to the extent of him dedicating parts of the song to the ‘lil thing. It’s why there’s one on both covers, it seems. Someone posted an excerpt a bit into main thread, it’s not much but I hope that helps fill in the gaps. :////

Lime is a fan of Minsk & Boo from Baldur’s Gate 3 confirmed. Got it. /s

Seriously though, that is kind of sweet. Poor guy.

Kizu is a band that has used the same few baseline chord progressions in many songs and still have them all sound different.

I don’t mind them, they’re good. But i like their steroid and 0 era more

I was wondering why both covers had hamsters on them!

From an interview in PHY magazine:
Lime said that a sad event — the death of his hamster — inspired the song:

When he died, I was incredibly sad. I wrote the song remembering how lively he was, imagining him running on his wheel.

— Is that why the song has such a restless, fast rhythm?

There’s also a line like ‘You’ll conquer the world with your cuteness’ — that’s about him too. So with the feeling of ‘hamsters really are so adorable,’ I wrote this song, contrasting that with human foolishness and ugliness.

JP: PARASITE

Devouring everything without a trace,

Even the nearest worlds — one after another.

Drinking to the last drop both tears and prayers, along with life itself,

Toppling the sky, drying up the seas, crossing the universe on that rocket toward the nearest worlds…

And still, you radiate charm again,

Even beyond the Solar System.

I will deliver to you, from a world where prayer has no meaning,

What on this planet is called, for example, love.

Hold it carefully so you don’t lose it,

Cling to it together with life itself.

Devouring the universe, draining galaxies, heading toward neighboring worlds,

We will go on destroying each other even beyond the far side of the universe.

And yet, it seems you will conquer the world with your charm,

And the entire Solar System.

In this world, if the time and place of birth are different…

People are still people, yet everything is completely different.

Nearby, people are killing one another,

Taking everything from each other.

Toppling the sky, drying up the seas, crossing the universe on that rocket toward the nearest worlds…

And still, you radiate charm again,

Even beyond the Solar System.

Spinning fruitlessly, casting down the sky,

Surpassing the heavens, praying for them…

Let me tell you the truth of this disappointing world.

I dunno why, but this read like an edgy 14 year old on MySpace in the early naughts. Neat!

That’s fair, and he himself talked about it somewhat ironically, being aware of it :slightly_smiling_face:

At first I didn’t really like that cheerful acoustic guitar solo, but after reading the lyrics and the explanation, everything kind of fell into place. It feels like he’s deliberately avoiding taking things too seriously, what he’s already did before. I actually like that kind of outlook on life, when you understand the absurdity of everything that’s going on, but try not to overdramatize it.

Unlike Houou, I wouldn’t say JP PARASITE is typical for them. I’m not super knowledgeable about this kind of stuff, but something really sets it apart from their other songs with acoustic guitar. I mean specifically the arrangement.

The melody doesn’t really sound like anything else, and since I tend to focus on melody first, the song feels fresh to me. The composition is really well thought out.

I decided to split it because the second comment isn’t a reply to you, it’s a separate thought.
