キズ (KIZU) - 鬼 (Oni)

Lime has a real range in which he can SING, not just squeak out some low quality high notes) Diversity isn’t about switching from squeaking to screaming or growling. Some of his Ichigeki guests were not bad in choosed songs, but… Tatsuro wouldn’t be as good in Kawazu f.e., Sono wouldn’t be as good in Juusei or Anagura, as well as Dancho and so on. But Lime did it all great. He has not just range, but also an amazing flexibility and dynamics; as a vocal coach Mahone said, his voice is like a ping-pong ball. This is a real vocal mastery and what a real versatile is, not just smoke and mirrors like many “cool” vocalists do, who don’t even sing on pitch well) If you don’t like his tone it’s ok, just tastes.

But Lime has wider vocal range) You probably mean extreme vocal technique, but Lime has much better clean vocal technique.

In the 7 years they been active (wow I’m old just yesterday it was there 1st anniversary) there dvd releases have been the same old same old now they get to shove on one more song and say “give us more money” I would be more supportive of Kizu if they were a more active band 3 songs every 3 months? there the equivent of “yeah I’m in a band, but we haven’t released any music”

the amount of activity and songs they could release if say they made 6 songs every 3 months then those endless dvd releases would be more worth the money and carry more varity

One of there more recent anniversary dvd’s compared to likely there 7th one will carry very little varity with Oni being the ending and a look book of there current look by then there look will be over

His clear voice is accomplished, it’s true but as a metal singer, he is incomplete. Little or not guttural sing (growl, pig squeal, grunt etc…). On the other side, his screaming technique is pretty good. Too bad he sometimes gives the impression of not leaving his comfort zone.

But Kizu isn’t extreme metal band) I think it’s just not that kind of music he wants to make now.

No idea about this song but I’ve came to say that not all metal needs a boogeyman making all sort of silly noises

I can’t contradict you on this point. Currently, KIZU isn’t an extreme metal band. Personnaly, i would like to see Lime evolve in a more cavernous metal like Wataru with 12012 (from DEICIDA OF SILENCE to XII).

I for once loved this release, ever since strawberry blue I found them to be repetitive, this track broke the streak for me with the way it progresses and then you get the catchy chorus, also love Lime’s singing voice

Its nice to see how kizu is growing and with great video music and songs. Looking forward to new album :sparkles:

@zeus the thread became a review :smiling_face:

It’s catchy but also all their songs blend together which isn’t bad necessarily (a lot of bands have a signature sound (the pillows) and are still fun to listen to and plenty successful) lynch for the last several years and albums sound like the same thing for instance.

I’d consider him a top VK vocalist even though I’m not a major fan of the band - although that list isn’t incredibly long. If only for having a distinctive sound and good vocal control - whether or not it sounds good to you or not (I like it - it’s my favorite part of the band). I’d agree however with complaints that their music hasn’t been as catchy but not everything needs to be catchy… hasn’t been hooking me in other ways either though. Also I’d say he’s at least as versatile as an average good singer maybe more so. Not as much as Kyo for example (even excluding harsh vocals) but most singers aren’t and Kyo has also had almost 30 years of experimentation. In particular with this I’m talking about hearing a vocal melody and feeling like I’ve heard him sing exactly like that in a previous song just with a different arrangement of notes. Most singers have very little range in this sense so it’s not something to knock him on in particular. Also I think some more experimentation from the rest of the band would help.

This song was nice. The above applies but it’s still leagues better than the average VK band I hear.

Lime’s true potential doesn’t come on the studio recordings. You need to watch an live recording

Also, I HIGHLY recomend checking the youtube series where he does duets with other vk vocalists

Idk i LOVE this?? SO much? compositionally it’s so interesting, I did my first listen while walking somewhere and I genuinely stopped to rewind and go “damn” at some parts.

I’ll probably do a more detailed writeup explaining my thoughts later, but I truly think Oni is the most clear, complete, expression of Lime’s artistry that he’s done so far. I really don’t have the technical vocabulary to explain it properly, but everything CLICKS: the careful layering of piano/synths, the changing scales, the arrangment of the main instruments not being too much to disrupt the whole flow, the cohesive sense of a story progressing.

I think it’s brilliant, and probably Lime’s best work to date as a composer.

Really love this song! The visuals for the PV are cool. Might be my favorite release of the year so far, I’d have to go back and see what else dropped this year.

Hmm. Are they really big enough to make this worthwhile??

If I remember correctly their Yoyogi show sold out and Budokan is 3x the size, so possibly?

I never got into Kizu before, but this song slaps!
Anyone got recommendations from their discography for me to try next?

For the beginning, I’d suggest their best of KATAKI
