勇企 (- yuuki - ex-CoRe The Child, UnsraW, ex-DOAK) first official releases announced

he had speed-disk staff doing studio records with unsraw and doak, but for whatever reason his solo thing is like bedroom-kei all over again.

I’m not sure if he even had someone assisting him with those releases, but like… this is the scene that survived like years and years of starwave printing objectively worse records only to somewhat improve in the past couple years, and there’s still a shit-kei band on their own private labels popping out now and than

I just don’t get where the scrutiny comes from, I mean… that single teaser should tell everything about his funding for this project at the time?..

Because I’ve been messing around with recording guitar riffs through my equipment for the better part of a year, and nothing that I’ve ever recorded sounds this bad.

It’s also 2024, not 2014. At-home equipment has gotten really good and it’s very easy to get a passable guitar tone. I’ve found that most of the magic happens in mixing and production. That entire step sounds like it was skipped. I’m just not sure what happened to all the other instruments. It’s as if he pushed the drums as low as it could go, panned every instrument but him and the piano hard left and right, put himself in the space in the center, hit “Render” and was done.

For the record, Starwave also needs to get it together.

I think that the very indie scene over there is severely lagging behind in terms of recording (could the record tech be more expensive in Japan compared to the US after all import and handling and seller mark-ups add up?) so I wouldn’t really expect a lot from him until he picks up a decent label deal, but he does not seem to be overly active this decade anyway, so we got what we’ve got.
