Anyone else remembers these 90‘s commercials for compilation albums like “50 greatest rock ballads” or “Bravo Hits”? Now I wonder if one were to make something like a “50 greatest VK songs” compilation, besides it being a nightmare because of copyrights and stuff, what songs would or should be featured? I can think of some bands, but then picking one song to represent? Impossible!
If it were truly in the style of those infomercials, it would probably be just “the biggest hit”, not necessarily the Best song.

someone prompted chatGPT for this and posted it to FB like it was their original thoughts; made me think i’d really love to see what an actual human would put as their fav 50, but i have 10k songs tagged ‘vkei’ in my uhhh bookmarks list and have no faith in my ability to look through them and pull out just 50 that are the best.
But please @ anyone have at it, i’d love to read some lists; or maybe this kinda thing has been run thru polls already in all the ones we’ve seen go on here

I mean i can think of a lot of bands that i am sure will be featured on a compilation like that. But how do you pick the song? I mean what even is kagerous biggest hit? Or muccs? Or lynchs?
Maybe that should be divided by decades that leaves more options.
If I were to pick I wouldn’t know what. I couldn’t leave out my preferences and they often don’t align with the greatest hits or other people’s choices.

I was actually thinking about it in terms of “how to introduce people to vkei” depending on which music genre they prefer. For example, my top-3 loud kei songs are
- D.I.D. - Paranoid Personality
- Dimlim - Vanitas
- Nocturnal Bloodlust - Juusou
If we are talking about menhera kei, then it’s
- Dezert - Satsui
- Zetsumei - Yuukai
- Mamireta - Moshi Moshi
And the list goes on. I find it difficult in my head to compare Phantasmagoria with Avelcain, as they are way too different. I mean, some songs changed vkei forever, like X Japan -Kurenai, Luna Sea - Rosier, Kuroyume - Death Mask. But there are not so many of them, as the genre is way too small. It’s easier to compile 100 metal songs (just American, or in the world), since the genre is very broad and there’re so many bands that defined the genre.

this would be so hard because the “best/greatest” is subjective. i frequently see lists that say X Japan and Dir en grey are the original best pioneers, and leave out Loudness, Bow Wow, and Anthem - yeah, those are metal, but metal created the spinoff to visual kei, etc, and here we are!
so, while we can make lists of Top 50, they would vary so vastly. it would be so much fun to see each other’s and see what someone considers Absolute Best/Pinnacle/MASSIVE MIX CD vs someone else!

The list better include MUCC old songs from zekuu,kuchiki no tou,tsuuzetsu or homura uta.When someone makes a list of greatest Vk songs on tiktok or X and doesn’t include MUCC masterpiece it pains me
