Advice on meeting musicians?

So I’m asking this as in a couple of months I will be moving to Canada where I’ll know nobody, and I’m hoping to befriend musicians and (hopefully) join a band over there. Anyone got any advice on how to do this??

I guess the normal procedure is going to places where your kind of music gets played and getting in touch with ppl there. I once got into contact with a guitarist because I noticed his metal get-up in conjunction with longer nails on some fingers.

Other than that, relentlessly posting on the web (on dedicated websites/forums) can somtimes yield results. But searching is a long and annoying process. Especially drummers. I am searching myself.

I’d add: go to the place(s) around where the rehearsal studios are. Leave an ad + ask to the staff which band is looking for a member (ppl there often know if the line-up is full or not)

Good-luck

Musicians or famous musicians? Basically every second dude play something.

Some good tips are to go on big festivals and concerts. And also on small evenings and local bars where world unknown bands are playing.
You can meet people close to the bands on these events, like, old friends, school mates, and if you become friends they could introduce you to them.
Small bands are also an option, hang out with them, they can get you in their friend circle.

Just, please, don’t act like a groupi. Don’t follow them with open mouth, drooling, with sparkling eyes and the obvious idea you are obsessed with the idea of them being cool. If you play some instrument you can look for other people playing, may not being professional, but in forums and facebook/instagram groups there are for sure people interested in finding band mate.

I’m just talking about people who wanna make music, not famous people! I’m not that big on the whole would love to meet my heroes kind of thing haha. Thanks for the advice, I’ll probably search for forums with people also looking to start a band, as well as looking for communities where I can hang out with people who want to create something

Attend local music events, concerts and open mic nights. It’s a great way to connect with the local music community. You can meet other musicians at these events and get to know the music scene.

Follow local musicians and bands on social media platforms and join in their discussions. You can make initial connections and learn about the music scene through social media.

Attend a music workshop, course or school, which will provide the opportunity to meet other musicians. You can learn new skills and expand your musical network.

Explore local music societies and organizations, which often have gatherings of musicians and music lovers where you can network.

If you play an instrument or have a talent for composing, consider creating your own music project. This will attract other musicians who may be interested in participating in your project.

In any situation, take the initiative to communicate with others. Ask other musicians questions about their music, share your interests and talents, and show respect for their music.

Music circles may include a variety of musical styles and talents. Keep an open mind and don’t limit yourself to a specific style or type of music so you can get to know the music community more broadly.

Making new musical connections can take some time, so be patient. Don’t be discouraged, continue to be actively involved and make connections.

Most importantly, be passionate about music, enjoy the process, and be willing to share your musical interests with others. By getting involved in the local music scene, you’ll have a greater chance of meeting other musicians and achieving your musical goals. Good luck!

Same rules. Events, bars, new bands usually have gigs in clubs or support bigger bands.
