I gotta respect your vibe Blossom
Decentralized web for the win. I hope every social media app is burned to the ground.
I’m really enjoying experimenting with federalization and foruns will forever be cool
i wish it was called anything but the fediverse bc that’s the most sus name for anything i’ve ever heard
but the idea of it sounds really cool, i hope it picks up!
y’all who hate social media should know a huge part of americans’ sudden interest in this Chinese app is frustration/protest against meta for probably very similar reasons to why y’all don’t care for FB/IG. myself included in this…
Watching Americans swarm to a heavily censored app, desperate for their next brainrot dopamine fix, is peak comedy to me. Imagine when they find out about XHS’s terms of service
we can make a game of it, if you’d like! For every comment left against, i can return one for.
After reading their terms of service & community guidelines, one part that stands out to me is where it’s said not to make a show of having wealth, as we’ve not all got it. But posts considered showing off or extravagant can be protected if they’ve got clear educational value, or offer something beneficial to most users.
I think the comedy you’re mentioning here is an intentionally crafted joke, so i’m glad to see it’s being picked up on!
In the US, we figure meta, who owns FB, IG, and Twitter competitor Threads, is behind or at least heavily benefiting from shutting down their competitor’s operation in the US.
When we think about “why xhs of all things, a Chinese app named after Mao’s book?”, we can reason a large part of that was to find the most opposite of zuckerberg’s holdings; the furthest thing possible, even to a degree that seems absurd (as everyone in this thread points out) as, at first, a show of how much the current state of social media in the US doesn’t align with our values, just as it seems not to align with yours or mine.
Wait until the censorship starts rolling out and then we can see how much values align.
The most successful thing these social media companies ever did was convince everyone that we can’t exist without their products. We can and some of us do. No one needs XHS, they just aren’t willing to admit the nature of their relationship with social media needs reexamining under the light of addiction.
I’m on there, so i’m happy to report back if i get banned / posts removed.
Actually, i’ve only tried posting three times, and my second post, a well-shot well lit photo of my sister’s cats (i did a stylized photoshoot w/ them as a Christmas gift for her years back) got zero likes & 20 views in an hour, far from the 200+ my first post of me standing funny and playing guitar wrong had done in that time. So i took that post down myself.
My guess is that while that post might have been suited for IG, it wasn’t in sync w/ what xhs’s users and algorithm are looking for, so it wasn’t circulated any.
Also, yeah sure i don’t need this one - i wouldn’t be surprised if there’s no more than a week left before our government bans it, puts up a firewall, or anything (extremely happy to eat my words and be proven wrong here)
I just think it’s extremely cool that i get to talk to regular people from a country my whole life i’ve been unable to. I’d be just as excited about that possibility having opened over snail mail or forums, and just as uninterested as i currently am in learning other new social media apps like bluesky, mastodon, threads, etc.
What I find way more funny is, that forums also are social media, just another way of it. It’s not social media that’s the problem, it’s the people who think they can act how they want and it’s the owners who don’t care about certain things and that combination turns certain platforms into shit, but it’s not social media by itself.
Signing up for the Chinese one though? Nope. For several reasons (one is the mention of TikTok which sounds like a comparison, and I never used this one as well).
I tend to think that is more to protect the brainless fuerdais and party ppl that do those kind of “mistakes” online from time to time, than because of the “values”.
Btw, dont think is named after Mao´s book, the English name for that book may be “little red book” coloquialy, but the Chinese name for that book is more Quotations of Mao, so not really related…
uhm I feel like we take this whole thing too political once again for that this forum had actual rules to not get political, let people just post their Xiaohongshu/RedNote here and reconnect on the social media site a lot of people now use as replacement for tiktok
yeah i even asked the question lol like
has anyone got one?
Not “i need you to make one for me”
So much shit that the government could go after and they choose TikTok
What a farce.
fuck the ccp
I’m not a news person & i didn’t see a topic anywhere for them, so i didn’t know where else to put it but here lol
But did y’all know that Silver Ash came back??? And released music recently? I saw this on what seems to be their official acc (English bc i pressed the translate button) and vk.gy seems to corroborate it…
Lilith’s vocalist is back with a new band!
NYX
I just watched the music video, it’s true
i can’t believe i got to hear a familiar voice on a new song again!
Silver Ash is restarting, Jinghua has this band and Lin all his products - can the 2020s pleeasee be the decade the Chinese vkei scene breaks through in earnest?
They had their first oneman (NYX) in Shanghai past December with Kiryu´s drummer as support member.
As for the break through… I reaaaally doubt there can be any vkei scene break through in China besides the events LiveHunter holds from time to time in the Bandai Namco Shanghai Base (last one Moi dix Mois, which apparently sold out quite fast)
Interestingly i saw lots of Japanese names in the credits for their PV - i wonder if Shanghai will be a better base for collaboration than Beijing was?
But i hope they find some way to crack the code and get something going on. Nothing special about China in particular for me, really, but afaik this is the first time i’ve been aware of a few bands outside Japan in the same country being active at the same time.
Not to mention i way prefer Jinghua’s preference to sing in his own language instead of Japanese - i want to hear vkei in every language
