I could’nt believe it when I saw the title… I feel extremely sad and I cried…
I didn’t listened to them that much when I was younger, just some songs here and there. But I always loved his voice, and recently I listened more closely their albums and discovered some gems (I am particularly a fan of their ballads). I even discovered « Dress » and I asked myself why I could not know this song before…
Today I think it’s my most listened song on Spotify, and the one which calm me down the most among every song/genre I listen.
I post this as a tribute, not the most known, but I discovered his solo career with this cover…. Beautiful live.
Crushing. I would go as far to say that, pound-for-pound, Buck-Tick is(was) the strongest and most consistent act in VK - which is fucking astounding because of how long they’ve been around. Sakurai’s effortless charisma and skill as a frontman were absolutely vital to this. I can’t even begin to express how huge a loss to the scene this is.
He was a legend. One of the best ever. I can’t believe we lost him so soon. 57 is no age at all. RIP man…
I was never a B-T fan, but there’s no denying they’re a legendary band and Sakurai was a legendary figure in the scene.
This year is definitely cursed.
I don’t have words for how I feel rn, but I caught Imai’s post on IG about it. The actual post announcement/message, has anyone got a translation of it? Imai’s IG Post
One thing that’s for certain is that Atsushi has left behind an impeccable legacy. BUCK-TICK have been active for longer than (or almost as long as) many of us have been alive, and they’ve remained amazingly solid throughout their career. And that’s an incredible feat when you consider the sheer amount of bands out there that fall apart after one album, or even the bands that start off good and then quickly become lifeless shells of their selves within a few years. It’s not just BUCK-TICK’s longevity, but the QUALITY of their longevity that is an absolute marvel to behold.
What a huge a blow to the Jrock world, and our community as well…
Thank you, Atsushi and B-T for your contributions to the world of music. I’ve never been a big VK fan, but Atsushi and B-T have far transcended that label and they’ve crafted some tunes that will forever stick with me.
This is horrible and beyond shocking. I never dug too deep into BUCK-TICK, but I totally respect their major contributions to VK and legacy. So sad. I hate that this happened.
