BUCK-TICK: vocalist Atsushi Sakurai has passed away

I keep reading every message in this thread but I still don’t know what to say. I woke up around 6:20am today and maybe 5 seconds after I woke up, I wouldn’t know how long since I had woken up I wasn’t thinking ofc, my friend texted me saying “I heard about what happened to bucktick, I know you really liked them” and with that wording I thought they would disband but she never texts me abt disbandments.
My heart was pounding from that message and I immediately searched up bucktick and saw what happened. It’s completely unexpected and even Atsushi said he can’t imagine himself dying.
I used to always think abt what he’d be like as a old man, since he’s one of the most attractive bandmen, it’s hard not to think abt what he’d look like in the future. If he’d look similar to himself now.
During the days after he passed but it wasn’t announced, I felt like something bad would happen but I didn’t know what. I found out today.
I’ll miss you forever

Extremely sad news for the scene

Sad and very shocking. Seems they had to cancel a concert that same day.

It’s absolutely terrifying to think that just about anyone at any age can fall ill and die so suddenly, and I wonder what the underlying cause of the hemorrhage was. But I guess it’s not necessary to speculate too much.

I just feel for his family and close friends. It must be incredibly difficult for them right now. :frowning:

An absolute icon in visual kei. Reading all the comments from bandmen and fans…there’s no question as to how influential he was.

Seems he sang 3 songs before that final show was cancelled according to this fan

I’m already digesting this little by little.
He had had health problems in 2019 and lost a lot of weight. The man also continued to work on recovering. Now this has happened while on stage. He didn’t know what vacations were. rather, the mortal arose because of him not knowing how to be still, as he said. All this makes me wonder if in Japan they have a very high rate of tours and releases and if this makes their artists suffer a lot.

Was it confirmed that he tripped and banged his head?

Would you mind expanding on this? I wasn’t following BT as closely these past few years but I wasn’t aware of any health scares or anything like that

I still can’t process this. When I saw the news I just couldn’t believe it. What a huge, legendary loss. Rest in peace King :dove:

What a loss… I’ve known B-T for years but only really got into them a year ago. Sakurai’s become one of my favourite singers, one that I look up to. May his legacy live forever.

I’m sad. Really sad. This hurts because Buck Tick is one of my gateways into the scene. And they’ve played a pivotal role in my upbringing to adult hood and they’ve influenced my Guitar playing.

I will miss Atsushi and these songs/live performances will hit different now. But I am very glad for the time he was here. Thank you big homie.

Gone but not forgotten. Condolences to his fam, ALL OF YOU, and the rest of B-T and their staff. I CANNOT imagine what they’re going through.

Sending love to all of you here <3

I’m trying to explain the magnitude of this to a friend who isn’t into Japanese music but I’m not really sure how. I don’t really know what western musician really matches up with his influence. I can’t believe he’s gone, I keep listening to them and seeing videos of the Japanese embassy in Moscow with the tribute for him. I just can’t believe it

Probably Chester Bennington from Linkin Park, no?

David Bowie? Robert Smith? Dave Gahan?

David Bowie was the one I was leaning towards when talking to them, I didn’t think of Robert Smith since he’s still alive but that’s definitely one that’d resonate with the person I’m talking to since they like The Cure a lot

Never been a fan of this band but I am really sorry to hear this. It was a big band and had a lot of fans. I’ve lost my idol three years ago and the news he died turned my life apart.

May Atsushi Sakurai rest in peace.
