They had a really good and long run, especially when you consider how short-lived most bands are. They gave us a really amazing discography with lots of bangers, which i will certainly revisit now after the anouncment. And hopefully there is yet more to come, it’s still two years (though time can run fast…). I am probably less affected by the news, since they are not my most listened or followed band - but even i get a bit sentimental about their end.
They are a band that will definitely be hugely missed - once they have split Visual kei will certainly become a bit more boring (and poorer in quality bands still actively making music), considering how unique and creative these guys were - no other band in the scene came close to their style and they way they compose music. And I am aware in the 2000s there were a bunch of adjacent bands, like the whole “misshitsu” thing, but none of these acts really managed to hold a candle to them.
Most VK acts just copy paste their music from other similarly formulaic bands and dress fancy to look hawt - these guys had such a varied range of influences and the actual desire to express something with their art. Their visuals and looks, no matter how simple or over the top, were pretty cohesive and had actual depth too (beyond just trying to look sexy). Maybe it’s because Sakurai Ao is gay and so has a very different perspective and vision of what Visual rock can do than most guys in the scene.
Right, the dates for 2027 and 2028 are so few, I really hope they will add more later on. If they do, it will be my first and last time seeing them too
To be able to set a two year farewell tour, I guess? It’s preferable to bands who announce a final show with one month’s notice that the vocalist won’t even be at (glares at Lyrica)
Thank you so much for this I listened to it doing a lunch errand and I felt like for a moment my heart was back in a rainy summer afternoon in 2008. All is well. I will listen to your recommended songs, thank you so so much for taking the time!!
and to you too as well Katie!! Super appreciative of everyone’s generous sharing.
Kenjirou’s statement (elaborates that this method of disbandment is meant to embody the concept of “shukatsu”, preparing for an ending. Expresses a wish to one day explain how they came to this decision. Shows respect and gratitude to his bandmates and fans)
My personal thoughts: I don’t think Kenjirou will ever retire and I’m interested in seeing what he does next. I hope Ao enjoys the surprise resumption of Hektor activities after this. Shuuji…please take care of yourself!!!
It wasn’t reformed, I’d say It was a chance for Ao and Sharaku to perform without having to movilice other 2 people and have small scale shows with the Hector theme. But It was more in line with the acoustic lives they both have been doing on a off for a while now than a new Hector lineup as a duo. They are the core of the band but I think they see It as a full band sound wise.
