it was honestly such a crazy move
they came in, everyone was cheering as usual, and then ao leaned into the mic and was like,
“On September 10th, 2028… caligari will disband.”
about half the people in the room were like “huh?” and then it was completely silent.
but then he did the usual “are you guys ready to have fun?!” cheer and it was back to business. crowd was naturally a bit more lukewarm than usual but the performance itself was pretty normal.
ao did a short MC before the encore songs but didn’t give any reasons for the disbandment. he just said that life happens and they’ll be emptying all (the fans’) bank accounts before they go.

I was in shock when I read It. I Will try to see them in the neantime. I suspect Ao is looking into retiring.

As officially announced, cali≠gari will enter its final stage and conclude its activities as a band.
In Japanese, there is a term called “shukatsu” (終活), which reflects this idea of preparing for an ending.
Our goal is to reach that end on September 10th, 2028.
As for how we came to this decision, I hope to explain it someday when the time is right. I kindly ask for your understanding.
There are still many things about these next two and a half years that haven’t been decided yet, but we hope you will stay with us until the very end.
I am aware that how one feels about “two and a half years” differs from person to person, but we hope that in the end, we can all reach this “goal” together with a smile on our faces.
While taking good care of both our minds and bodies, we want to run all the way to the finish line!
I sincerely respect the other two members.
I am truly grateful to be surrounded by such capable staff.
And I am thankful to GARISTs for everything up until now. I will always be grateful for your support from here on as well.
I will keep playing the bass in the hope of bringing happiness to everyone.

Oooh.. Never listened to them but loved their presence in the scene. Anyway, 2028 is quite far so i have the time to enjoy them so I can maybe say " I appreciated cali gari while they were still a thing "

Thanks for the details. Looking at the tour dates, its missing Ao’s birthday live on 28th Jun that is held every year and the odd last concert date of 10th Sep instead of their usual 11th Sep. Am I missing something? Nonetheless, I will try to attend their concerts in sep/oct 2026 & Mar 2027 as a proper send off.
I hope they announce more dates through 2027 or I wont be able to ever see them…

Surprised they didn’t go for 2029 as it would be 20 years (god time flies) since the reunion, a nice number.
Can’t tell if it’s better that we know this now, or if it’s better that they just announce it randomly in 2028 that they were disbanding on that day or a few months from then.
At least it gives people a chance to see them one final time or for the first time.

I’m not that surprised. The most astonishing thing is that they’ve lasted this long since their reunion in 2009.
Announcing it in advance, even if it’s a bit abrupt, is a good thing in my opinion. First, they are true to themselves by not doing what everyone else does, even in the end x)
And since there would inevitably be an end, especially after so much time, it’s best to be upfront, prepare the fans, and finish strong before making that one album too many or having to abruptly announce it because, well, they’re just too old or something .
I’m still kind of sad. I’ve been listening to them since 2007–2008, before the reunion. It really hits differently.
That said, I haven’t always found their albums excellent; the latest one, 18, was a real disappointment, for example.
However, 16 and 17 (maybe even more version 17.5) were really good and are among those that make me say “yes, it was worth it to continue”. Ajisai no Gogo btw was a pure honey to listen to. Others album are not bad and i always kept between 1 and 3 really good songs for my taste, but not as good as a whole like these.
And how to forget one of their best and underrated (“underknown ?”) release in 10 years : Doukei, suiren to himawari. With this masterpiece title song, probably my favorite from them, wich today sounds like the perfect farewell song…

It would be nice to round everything up to 20. Its so neat I really hope they end on an odd umber like 19 or 21.77 to keep everything in character instead of finishing cleanly lol
