Cerva's Concert Chronicles

I finally made it to Tokyo yesterday (after an 18 hours trip x___x)

Going to concerts is not the main reason for this trip but I still have some planned so I figured it’s my turn making a live report thread.

First live and personally my highlight will be on Sunday:

Sadie 20th Anniversary Tour 悲壮 (Hisō) mode of darkness at Gorilla Hall Ōsaka

It’s very nostalgic to see them in Ōsaka as I saw them there when I first went to Japan in 2007 with my bff on her birthday :face_holding_back_tears:

Overall I have 10 lives planned but not all the tickets yet. Stay tuned

Here comes the first report!

27/4 Sadie 20th Anniversary Tour 悲壮 (Hisō) mode of darkness at Gorilla Hall Ōsaka

I was so looking forward to this. Brought my 18 years old Sadie tour shirt from 2007 for this occasion.:face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I stayed in Kyoto so I had to come over to Osaka at noon and had Lunch (Sukiyaki) there.

Doors open at 04:15 pm and I arrived ten minutes before at the venue. (Got a bit distracted by the CapCom Store in Umeda :see_no_evil_monkey:)

A lot of fans are already waiting and I think about 95 % are wearing the current tour shirt. Which comes only in black … and I realize that I stand out a bit with my pink one u_u

Outside of the hall we are already greeted by today’s stars :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

My Ticket number is A138 which is not super great but for a 1300 capacity venue it is also not bad.
I have the merch table basically for myself. I get the calender and this small pouch:

I thought the calender would fit in the puch but after trying for 5 minutes I give up and buy the tote bag as well

Inside we see more Sadie:

(The banners could be won afterwards in a lottery when you bought a CD or DVD but I didn’t get any of that because I already have the albums and the DVD was pretty expensive. Also if I win how do I get back such a banner to germany?)

Finally looking for a place to stand. It’s still more than half empty and I chose the far left side around 7th or 8th row.
Actually Tsurugi is my favorite member so I am on the wrong side but I tend to always stand on the left

At least the band name is as pink as my shirt :smiling_face_with_tear:

Concert starts a few minutes after 5:00 pm. I am super bad at set lists so please see the one Sadie provided on their Twitter:

(I think my pink sleeve is somewhere in that picture :face_with_peeking_eye:)

They start of strong with ドレス. Pretty exspected as it is also the first song on Revival of Darkness.
Everyone but Mizuki is wearing their outfit from the big picture in the entrance.
Tsurugi’s hair seems even fuller and Mizuki has his hair in two pigtails.

Standing on Mizuki’s and Aki’s side I can’t stop noticing how they are the complete opposite of each other. If Aki’s hand wouldn’t move on the bass, he could just be a live sized paper cut. While Mizuki makes cute and teasing faces and can’t stop his hips from moving.

Aki stands so straight all the time, he could balance a book on his head for the whole show…and his face is so motionless he can get as much botox as he wants, nobody would notice… does he even blink???
Tsurugi on the other hand can’t stand straight, always leans to a side

Mao sounds like this is a tour final. Already a bit sore voice. And Kei is a very hard working guy

I’d say audience is really at it’s best from Gimmick onwards.

Main part lasts around 1:15 h before the break.

Everyone but Mao comes back pn stage for the MCs together. But it’s basically Mizuki trying to get something out of the others. He could also work as show master if he ever wants to retire. Kei seems pretty shy hiding behind the drumset saying only a few sentences after being ask by Mizuki

When Mao comes back he’s waering these veeerry thight pants and with normal hair now and without the cape he looks so much smaller and thinner than before.

We get the first two encore songs and after that Mao talks again and I am so sorry but at some point I zoomed completely out of his “motivational speech” and thought about my laundery
His talk leads up to True Word and man he gives it his all and fights but he isn’t winning against every note. I kinda hoped for the sake of his voice, that this will be the last song but he pushes it more with Meisai and ends it with a ROAR! That guy does not lack dedication.

Mao and Kei trow in their muffler towels, Aki and Tsurugi each one half of the Set list and a lot of water bottles, picks and drum sticks.
As aspected Mizuki is the last one to leave the stage. Kei comes to the front and thanks everybody from his heart.

Overall it was a great show and I think Gorilla Hall is a good sized venue, where you will be able to see good enough from every place.
I think it was around 75% filled.

But I always compare a Sadie show to my first one. I know I shouldn’t. Back than they were so new. Had formed 2 years ago and played in a tiny club in Osaka. They had 3 encores and at the end all the fans took each others hands and jumped together. And I think that spirit of a young band is never coming back. But I am still so happy that they made this rrvival. Let’s pray for new songs now.

Oh and there is a story here why I have a pink shirt from that 2007 concert. When they came back for the MC everybody but Mao was waering a black tour shirt. Mao looks at them, looks down on himself, makes a face and says “Well… pink… only this was left…”

I found that so endaring that I had to get the pink one as well. I have so many dear memories with Sadie, my best friend and this shirt. So I just had to wear it

I am still thinking about seeing one of their upcoming fan club limited shows :see_no_evil_monkey:

Next up: Xanvala Tour Final at Ex Theater Roppongi on 5/5

They did have an outstore after the live, if you bought the latest CD you could get handshakes with the band :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Looking forward to more reviews!

I know but I was with my boyfriend in Kyoto and it was the only full day we had and I had already planned for the day. If anything I wanted the 6 shot but buying the limited edition twice is not something I have the money for right now. So I skipped that.
I already have their autographes  I did consider everything lenghtly and decided against going.
But thinking about staying 2 days longer in Nagoya to see one of their fan club lives

I promised Xanvala next but I today I went to a live spontanously because it was free and 20 minutes away

M.E.S.S. 1 year Anniversary Concert at Akabane ReNY Alpha

I was aware of their existance and know some songs but they a not a band I regulary listen to. It was just pretty convinient since Akabane is so close.

I arrived at 04:20 pm (I always wanna use 24h clock but I don’t wanna confuse abyone :see_no_evil_monkey:)
No line there, so I just walked in and they had some nice decoration:

Everybody got a banner as well:

Vo. Yuuka:

Gt. Shitsu

Ba. Shou

Gt. Yuya

The free ticket comes with a free cheki of Shitsu and my first way lead me to the merch table as I needed to buy at least something, when I get all this just for a drink ticket. I got a random button. It’s Ba. Shou:

As we waited for the show to start some guys came but went behind the merch table to watch. I assumed they are friends of the bands or other bandomen.
At least one of them is another bandomen as he posts later on twitter. It was Ba. Ryo from Mizukami CLINIC. He seems to be a big fan of Yuuka and Shou :joy: Evidence here: https://x.com/mizu_cli_RYO/status/1917926805190983755

I stood behind a column but since the small venue was filled pretty well I didn’t mind. I could still see 75% of the stage just fine and didn’t want to take away space from their regular fans.

They started a good 10 minutes late but the stage had a nice big screen behind it that played the mv to the song. If remember correctly it was “eureka!”. Overall the lighting and screen behind the stage in ReNY is quite nice.

They played 5 songs or so before the MC. Which was quite fun. Yuuka has a good amount of charisma. A worthy frontmen. He seems a bit confused how to start the MC but goes for introducing all the members and makes a bit fun of the “jikoushokai” (selfintroduction) with something I can only describe as “anime voice”. :joy:

Today’s support drummer was introduced as “Mel-chan” (aka Mel/Rorschach 2-gou
from GRIMOIRE/Rorschach.inc). Yuya and Shou are also “Yuya-chan” and "Shou-chan"but Shitsu is “Shitsu-kun”

Since this is the band’s first anniversary Yuuka asked for the mic get an echo effect and sang happy birthday in a hilariously tacky way.

We just got a few more songs before the encore. Yuuka needed some time to come back and I think Shitsu(?) said it’s okay if we sit down as it seemed to take a bit longer. But just a moment later Yuuka came back and laughed about the people that sat down.

First song of the encore is a ballade, that Yuuka introduces as such. After two more songs the concert was over. It seemed short but it was 1h 45min.

Overall it was absolutely worth going since I just needed to pay for the train and the drink.

So far their music didn’t seem like something ground breaking but I think they did very well live and since the club was full, they seem to resonate with fans. They also seemed to enjoy themselves a lot. Especially Yuya and Shou were smiling all the time.

I will very likely see them again as I plan to go to a taiban, they are part of.

On my way back I came across a book off and checked if they had some vk stuff and found some nice stuff. Got myself a Kiryu Tour DVD and GazettE’s Film Bug II:

I promised Xanvala, here comes Xanvala’s Tour 2024-2025 “Ark” #5 Grand Final
at EX THEATER ROPPONGI on 5/5/2025

Since it was a holiday in Japan on this Monday the doors for this concert opened pretty early at 04:30 pm.

I was a bit in a hurry when I got ready so only remembered to take an outfit photo at the station zoilette (but what’s more vk than toilette photos, right?).

I checked the weather forcast but 23°C feels hotter in Japan than at home, probably because of the humidity :smiling_face_with_tear: sweating…

When I came closer to the venue, the way felt kinda fimiliar.

When I reached this waiting area, I knew why it felt familiar. I have been here before :see_no_evil_monkey: I think it was a United Killers show (Taiban organized by Sadie).

There were 3 ticket categories: S, A and B

S goes in first and I think these tickets you got from the first lottery round.

My Ticket was S 337 so I tried to cool myself down a bit in a windy area near the staircase until my number is called. 337 does sound bad but I didn’t wait longer than 20 minutes.

The Ex Theater is a bit confusing inside. The entry is on a higher area but the concert hall is in the basement and there is a lot of stairs x___x

There is no bar or anything open, just some employees heanding out water and tea bottles for drink tickets. 600 Yen for bottle of water. Now you know how live houses pay their bills

This venue is a mix of standing and seated area. Directly in front of the stage is a large standing area, behind it theater like seats. Since they are ascanding stair like, you can see quite well from all seats.

I still chose the standing area as there was still free space in row three on the far right side.
Haven’t been that close to the stage in ages!

I was on Yuhma’s side but since my fav member is Tatsumi, I didn’t want to risk the 3rd row by checking the other side.

Concert starts about 10 minutes late at 05:40 pm. And in contrast to the heat outside it’s pretty cold inside.

Set list:

  1. Ark
  2. デスパレート
  3. MY BLACK
  4. 左耳の悪魔

The light show was super cool. They even had some pyrotechnic for the final!

I didn’t regret standing in front of Yuhma! That men is raw guitar power! It’s absolutely stunning to watch. And if I had any doubt that this is Yuhma, I lost it when the girl next to me and in front of started SCREAMING his name  very dedicated fans. (Also when he came back for the encore he gave us all the midfle finger and his fans returned it).

For some bass parts there is a spot light on 70. (I will refer to him as Nao from here on because it confuses me to write 70. …even if get the wordplay )

The stage was quite big so it was hard to see Souma and even with the see through drumset I couldn’t see much of Tomoya.

Tatsumi, well he lit a cigarette for ヒトリ舞台 and kept smoking while singing. But just two songs later Yuhma grabbed a cigarette and shared it with Tomoya and Nao  Maybe he also shared with Souma but I couldn’t see. It did look cool on stage, tho. Another kind of …pyrotechnic…

I had checked the set list of the last concert but it was quite diffrent from this final. They didn’t play 東京 in Nagoya, which makes sense. I was happy they choose to play it here and the Yuhma fangirl next to me was so touched, she cried. Good thing she had that Xanvala towel to dry her tears.

For the MC Tatsumi called each member to say something. Tomoya was first and seemed shy. At this point I wonder if people choose to play drums so they can hide behind it on stage :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Souma goes next and is the opposite. At first he has no microphone and just screams to the audience. Raw energy that guy. Tatsumi hands him his and sits down near the drums and he looks like a teacher who is listening to a student presenting his project. At first he made a face that said “wtf is he talking about” but soon it was a friendly nodding. I am sorry but Tatsumi’s face journey was just hilarious.

At some point Tatsumi talked about the tour title “Ark” but I think that was at the beginning after the first two songs. He explained that it is a ship and got a suprised “ehhhh” from the audience. Which surprises him… as he assumed the concept was a bit more clear he had mentioned the ship reference before

Nao later refers to the Ark concept again. Good thing this was not a drinking game, where you had to drink a shot every time he said “ship”! Is Nao the band leader? I think Tatsumi called him “Leader!” when it was his turn to speak.

As you can see in the set list they did two encores. Usually I wouldn’t mind but I had planned to be home by 10:00 … and the merch sell only started after the concert. :grimacing:

For every song they played more I hoped it would be ジャバラ but they didn’t play it :smiling_face_with_tear: saaaaad

At least with all the jumping and the pyrotechnic, I finally got warm again😅

From the merch I got:

(The second varja CD is not taken yet btw)

Overall it was a great show, with great energy and I might be biased because I really love Xanvala and was eager to see a oneman after I saw them at Kansai Rock summit last year.

They sound fantastic live and it’s a pleasure to watch. I think they still have a lot of this “younger band” energy that I missed a bit from Sadie.
They were so happy to play at this bigger venue and I think they deserve so much more recognition. For me they are in my top 3 of recent bands. They put out a lot of music and a most of the time they still manage to make songs that are easy totell apart and recognizable. I also like their “balance” between screaming and clean singing. And somehow while being heavy the music has still this livelyness that says “let’s dance! This is a party!”. A dark party nontheless… (This was also something I liked about DéspairsRay)
Also they mentioned v-kei several times so I assume they do vk because they love visual kei and not just for attention.

Yeah… what I want to say is probably Xanvala are great! Please give these guys a chance so they can become rock stars and not combini employess!

Their next tour will be in September

This was their tour final but a later they had a mini oneman for Nao’s birthday and the special Nao outfit they all wore is worth seeing:

Thank you for the detailed report, happy for you that you once again had a good time

Genereally speaking, it makes such a big difference when a band actually have fun and not just perform because it’s their job. Their good mood and positive energy is always contagious to the audience and they have a chance to generate new fans (that last part applies mostly for bands playing as an opener, on festivals, and so on - where the audience not necessarily consists of people who are already fans).

Is that a Scrunchie on the Merch pic?

Also: Super cute Outfit
(The new blouse was a very good investment )

It’s a Xanvala scrunchie! It’s super common merch and most fans wear them on their wrist together with the rubber bands. You can see people having so many it reaches their ellbow!

Luckily even the older bands seem to have fun during their lives. For example Sadie’s Mizuki was absolutely feeling the music very visibly in his face and singing along and dancing. Aki… well I guess that’s just his stage persona

Reminds when people in the metal scene were collecting their festivals bands by just let them stay on their wrists after the festival :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Is the Scrunchie trend a japanese thing or are they generally back in fashion? Totally forgot about them existing as to me this is an early 90’s thing

Huh… good question. I think as band merch they seem to be a japanese or east asian thing. But in generell for normal use I still see them in stores at home as well. But I think they are just relativly pratical more than in style

Lots of people use them regularly at home or outside. It’s considered unfashionable to have a plain black or brown hair tie visible in your hair so people will cover them up with scrunchies or clips.

That’s kinda funny. I think in Europe nobody cares if you use a plain hair tie. Using the big colourful scrunchies might even be considered childish.
Not that I would care about “childish” things. It’s also considered a childish hairstyle to wear pigtails :woman_shrugging: that does not spot me!

yes it’s so strange! everyone uses the same plain hair ties anyway, so i have no idea why it’s unfashionable. i honestly think having a giant ribbon or bow in your hair is cringier than a plain hair tie, but different fashion norms, I guess :woman_shrugging:

I hope I’m not going too much off topic here

But it seems like the whole style (clothing, accessories,…) of the average japanese woman is much more feminine (in an “innocent”, not a sexy way) than that of the average european woman.

I’ve never been to Japan, but in different medias I see a lot more things like big bows, ruffles, flower prints and soft pastel colors that, all in all, can make an outfit look very girlish. And scrunchies match to that aesthetic, I guess.

Maybe it’s just a social media/entertainment industry trend that is not that much “lived out” by “normal” people.

It’s definitely more feminine. Much more dresses and skirts in daily fashion. But intrestingly polish woman also dress more feminine than germans. So the contrast between Japan and Germany is even more visible.

I personally prefer the cute style. I very seldom wear trousers for example. skirts/dresses every day

(Well right now it’s sweat pants but just because I won’t leave the house )
