Thank you. It’s just so hard, politics is making this whole ordeal such a mess. The world has seen many epidemics and pandemics by now and we never, not once, doubted vaccines because it was pretty obvious that if it wasn’t for them things would have gotten out of control. Vaccines are actually developed thanks to science. It’s so weird, the way people are acting now like this is the vaccine that’s gonna kill us all. See, maybe it’s all a plan by Libya to kill everyone in the US and Europe or something but let’s face it, how. Also, this is how an epidemic caused by what’s basically a “flu” works: it spreads quickly and its mortality rate is pretty high for older people so if it’s spread (bc some ppl believe herd immunity sigh) obviously humans’ life expectancies will decrease (bc NO the vaccine isn’t going to fully protect 100% of people who take it) period.
But it seems that everyone wants to pretend obvious things aren’t obvious now, people don’t die when they are killed or whatever.
What I find most amusing about this whole “anti-vax” deal is that people have been mostly (aside of, of course, causing the sickness they should protect against, … which is something that can happen esp for immunocompromised people because what most vaccines do is basically attenuate a pathogen so the body will learn to produce antibodies against it ;;; …) accusing vaccines of “causing autism” because it “has been on the rise” which is hilarious because a) of course it is on the rise if you consider that from DSM-V on many diff disorders started being regarded as “autism spectrum disorder” so yeah you have what used to be a lot of different disorders under the terminology “autism” , b) nobody REALLY knows to this day what autism is exactly (to the point where big name doctors seem to disagree on diagnosis) and there are so many genes associated with it by now that it’s hardly all the same thing ; c) but it can be broadly described as a lack of feeling expression and/or social skills and/or interest in any of it, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anybody that kids raised on tv / pc / mobiles / vgs are more like this.
So of course who am I to convince anyone of anything but at this point I’ve decided that I just don’t wanna talk to those who reject science, good luck with dark ages 2.0 you self-proclaimed witches but I don’t wanna be a part
(again, a much needed edit: this doesn’t mean I will go around fighting people. But we all have subjects we can’t connect at all to people who think differently and I’m not like this regarding many things but this is definitely one)
Possibly because this topic seems to have several anti-vaxxers (and sympathisers) posting in it.
The whole cultural vogue where people stand under their little flags and scream at each other has become beyond tedious at this point. However, anti-vax isn’t simple tribalism; promoting this ideology actively kills people.
Not getting the vaccine is selfish and stupid. It puts everyone around you in danger. The thing about this virus is that it can be carried for weeks before symptoms show, and by that point, it’s too late; you’ve infected everyone you’ve had contact with in that time. The person who sat next to you on the bus, your friends, your family. Everyone. And they can die from it. All because of the anti-vaxxer’s egotistical desire for personal ‘freedom’.
This isn’t about picking sides. Vaccination isn’t a fucking religion, nor is it a political statement. it’s about doing what’s right. It’s about being respectful to others, and about being respectful to yourself, too. Unless someone has a diagnosed medical condition which makes them allergic to the vaccine, there’s no reason whatsoever not to get it.
as of may 2021, COVID total death toll is estimated at 3.4 mln deaths. daily death toll worldwide before COVID is estimated at 150k people, that amounts to 55 mln annually; there’re no officially published numbers for 2020 compiled yet that I had access to.
there’s no way covid will be infecting everyone at the same rate, you are not transmitting bubonic plague - it is a virus with well studied at risk groups.
which leads to the second point - AZ vaccines are already linked to deaths in healthy individuals.
the novel European H1N1 vaccine was later linked to narcolepsy and was never used following the only year it was used through; pfizer has a two year legal waiver in the USA, has legal immunity in Canada and the UK (but does not have it in the EU), and pressures south american governments to take all the legal and financial burden associated with the vaccine side-effects -
tldr:
“Everyone we spoke to mentioned this one company [Pfizer] as the worst one to work with and the most bullish,” Davies said. “They said that Pfizer went even further – they asked them to put up their sovereign assets.”
Davies said Latin American countries were asked to put up federal bank reserves, embassy buildings or military bases as a guarantee against the cost of future legal cases stemming from unlikely adverse effects.
Under this arrangement, the government rather than the company would shoulder those legal costs.
“That was really shocking to me,” Davies said adding that this account was corroborated by multiple lawyers who said “this is not typical” and “is an abuse of power”.
there were no massive mRNA vaccination campaigns launching before this one, and I will cite wiki, out of all possible sources, to reiterate my point:
Up until 2020, mRNA biotech companies had poor results testing mRNA drugs for cardiovascular, metabolic and renal diseases; selected targets for cancer; and rare diseases like Crigler–Najjar syndrome, with most finding that the side-effects of the mRNA delivery methods were too serious.
mRNA vaccines for human use have been developed and tested for the diseases rabies, Zika, cytomegalovirus, and influenza, although these mRNA vaccines have not been licensed. Many large pharmaceutical companies abandoned the technology, while some biotechs re-focused on the less profitable area of vaccines, where the doses would be at lower levels and side-effects reduced.
so what kind of exact technological breakthrough happened over 2020 alone, bubble-wrapped with legal immunity for all major countries with robust legal systems and largely juridically adept citizens it is supposed to profit from?..
It’s awkward how much talk there is about vaccines at work. I haven’t gotten it yet because my mom doesn’t trust it and will get mad at me if I do. You should see her rant about AstraZeneca causing blood clots, you’d be scared of her too lol
I actually like masks, I had one that I bought for fashion before the pandemic but didn’t wear it much because instead of getting my “don’t look/talk to me” message across, it had the opposite effect.
Uh, maybe you didn’t read my reply from before. But lol what I said basically was exactly “this isn’t directed at anyone IN HERE it’s what I’ve seen in general” . Please read what I said before again. Of course if this movement wasn’t so widespread I firmly believe that things would have been different - back then people were less critical of vaccines and I agree that there’s a problem with the way these COVID vaccines are being dealt with but the problem isn’t the vaccine itself because either way if YOU (or anyone who HAS access to vaccines …) get it it’s going to spread less IN GENERAL because, well, THIS is how a vaccine works. Period. It’s not difficult. Some people seem to firmly believe unscientific things about vaccines (all of them) and yeah good luck with the dark ages 2.0 for them. For everyone else, move on. It’s not so hard to get and you didn’t have to sound xenophobic because of it.
If you’re thrombophilic or severely immunocompromised - yeah be afraid of taking the vaccine because who knows? but for nearly everyone else it’s kind of laughable, honestly, that they think it’s better to spread the plague. Because no it’s not the bubonic plague but have you seen its effects in economy ? Since you have so much to say about me - I’m poor of course I care. But again, honestly I can’t force anyone to do anything - I know I took the vaccine as soon as I could and (hypothetical “you” = “everyone”) you’ll keep having your beliefs and I’ll keep having mine (which are more like… knowledge and fear ) so shrug it doesn’t matter, does it now?
Then Again I never once counted on vaccines so all I’m speaking about just like everyone else in here is are my experiences. I’ve been wearing a mask and sanitizing so often it’s worse than OCD lol. (Not Lol.) Edit: but honestly all I’m doing here is explaining AGAIN my words to someone who thought they were right in being aggressive about it. I really can’t see why (people are now acting all “oh it’s wrong to call someone else ‘stupid’” but I’ve seen worse words here directed at, like, kpoppies) but. And before I forget: “so what kind of exact technological breakthrough happened over 2020 alone” - a lot, generally.
Our stupid government took ages to put India on the red list of countries, also airports crowded like normal a with no proper border control. Thankfully the vaccine is effective against the strain and hospitalisations are low. It’s young people who haven’t been vaccinated yet who are catching it. A lot of people not bothering with masks and social distancing now, things are pretty much back to normal here so not surprising. We were going to lift all restrictions on the 21st, not been officially announced yet but like everything the government leak it to the press, it’s been delayed to the 5th of July.
I’m fully vaccinated because I chose to be(Pfizer). Even if it’s only 8 months old. I have no side effects besides the second shot making me have a fever for a day. California law now says I don’t have to wear a mask anymore if I’m fully vaccinated, which is irony for me because I always wear a surgical mask everywhere. I do it because I like to hide my face because my anxiety, and I don’t like people breathing in my space, especially people with BAD B.O and breath. Also I almost died from Miss Rona last December.
Also I did it so I can be permitted internationally anywhere. Miss Rona cancelled my Japan trip last year and EDC. I carry my card everywhere, so if I don’t feel like wearing my mask I’d just pull out my card and they can’t really enforce me to do anything.
just finished my two-injection based covid vaccination today and I felt like nothing changed basically, including my body and my circumstance. just had a line-waiting for about 6 hours from 5 a.m. and I was super hungry and thirsty…
I work as a teacher in Brazil, the worst country to be a teacher and to live during the pandemics lol. even though I’m working from home because of a medical license I’ve got, the school I teach at is opening everyday with circa 50% of its capacity, but teenagers in general don’t respect social distancing (specially because our president says that it’s not worth mantaining it, or using masks, or staying at home)… everyday we get emails of students that tested positive for the virus, sad situation.
luckily I’ll get the vaccine this week, they started vaccinatings teachers two months after reopening schools, which is obviously an absurd. Jair Bolsonaro is a fucktard.
so glad you’re able to get vaccinated, that must be a relief, and I’m glad you’ve been able to be remote. bolsonaro is…yeah, fucktard is a good word to describe him. awful absolutely beyond belief.
Welp. I won’t be able to get my T-virus’ 2nd dose before vacation. Either I’ll be lucky to get one shot Janssen before that, or will have to postpone chugging this cocktail after I return from vacation.
Friendly reminder that the vaccine doesn’t make you invincible, it just greatly reduces the chance you’ll get the virus (~90% with two shots) and lessens its effects considerably. So please be careful even after the inoculations. Keep wearing masks, keep social distancing, keep washing your hands. We can beat this if we all work together!
