I guess their reunion is unlikely a one-shot event. Why?

They registered the domain name last month and launched the OHP. Although their site still looks pretty basic, it serves the purpose for now. They are trying to promote their reunion across the internet both domestic and international.

These efforts are unlikely for a one-shot event, but it’s more like they’re telling us they are back for real. I think we can hope for more activity from the band.

Didn’t PIERROT re-launch their OHP and fan club too though? They didn’t come back for real. I’m not getting my hopes up for anything more than this show.

It’s probably gonna be like Pierrot, some concerts from time to time. Which is not so bad. I prefer this than bands who keep going with low quality music years after years.

I am not giving up hope for more than just a few concerts. Sadie did at least re recorder their old stuff.
And I can imagine after all this years Despa members do have some fresh ideas for new music as DĆ©spairsRay. Especially because there were reasons they just couldn’t do this comeback before. Zero, Tsukasa and Karyu did Luv Parade so they could do Despa Songs together for lives. So it seems they were longing to do this kind of music and the last puzzle piece was Hizumi recovering.

I was always wondering if there was more to their disbandment. Like a falling out between the members but they kinda always stayed connected in a way that they all did projects with Defspiral members. Luve Parade has Defspiral’s vocalist and NUL. their guitarist. And Kotha from Angelo did support for NUL.
You probably don’t exchange members like that if you hate your guts

It’s been only a few days since they announced their reunion and we don’t have much info to guarantee that they will be full-time active. But from what it looks, their reunion is unlikely for a one-shot event.

It has to do with them having a falling out with their label and losing ownership of their band name and songs or something to that extent. Details are fuzzy cos I read about it on a fan blog (livejournal) years ago. She attends almost every despairs ray AND luv parade concert available and translates every twitter post then so she should be a legit source.

Makes sense. I thought it was due to Hizumi’s condition because he already sounded very weak at the last tour.

Found the blog entry:

Make of it of what you will :man_shrugging:

For a man whose throat-problems were painted by foreigners online as if his voice box was about to fall off if he’d scream ever again, he sure sounded great when I saw them just prior to their disbandment. I’m inclined to take the blogpost as being closer to the truth than the alleged medical reason.

The reunion’s nice for people who didn’t get the chance to see them live. Any new music I’m not looking forward to when I’ve just about either hated or been indifferent about everything these guys have been involved with since Redeemer (which I like, but I despise Monsters).

Hizumi talked about his throat problems being neurological or psycholigical makes a lot of sense now… if they were treated like that…

I wonder if they were able to get the rights to the name and music now

That’s extremely exciting news! I have 0% chance of being able to fly out and make that… But I can dream.
It would be wild to see them come back in any capacity, even if it’s fleeting.
