At this point I’m just excited for any new music. It won’t be the same, but it’ll be something new.

I didn’t expect a full-on VK look, love that they added more edge than hizumi’s other band/luv parade does these days. maybe the new song will be relatively heavy too.

Seems like there is some problem with the song distibution, albums show up missing half of the tracks (except on spotify and yt music, but they were already available there before today)

This new look is some heat.

I was reading their latest Interview and this comment of Tsukasa caught my attention. Surely he Is talking about the earlier mentioned story here of how they were slaves of their last label

These are so awesome news!
I will try to catch them at Cross Road Fest but as my flight back home is going at the same day I hope they will play as early as possible..

But I’m pretty sure that we will see them in Europe again. Karyus communication in the last year was always adressed to international fans, too and I think he has a great attachment to us overseas. If it will be possible from the point of money I bet they will do a comeback here, too!

I’m really curious what any new music is going to sound like, especially considering Hizumi can’t do those harsh vocals anymore… but this edgier look seems to vary greatly from their last few releases, making me think they’re going down a heavier path.

I wasn’t aware of their issues with the previous label, but it sounds like it had something to do with the hiatus and the direction in sound? (I was always under the impression it was because of Hizumi’s health issues)

Definitely sensing a ā€˜here to stay’ feeling from all this.

This! If the issue with the label was so rough and they really got the rights to everything back now, they surely want to start over and do what they want with their Band.

Still makes me angry to think about. They are the artists who created everything and were beloved by the fans …

Actually he can, just look at Nul Latest stuff. Even during Nul first album in the song Xstream in 2018. The thing is that seems his throat issues weren’t that big of a deal. Not that didn’t happens, but he mostly likely used to cover the whole label stuff with a reasonable reason to disband.

There’s a small piece of me from 20 years ago that’s excited about this, and then there’s the me from 15 years ago that remembers ā€œMONSTERSā€.

No matter what comes of this tho, it’s still nice to see!

What is so bad about Monsters? I really can’t understand it.

It’s not coll:set

Monsters was ok and probably should have been an EP. But I still listen to Human-Clad monster regularly because imo that is one of their most underrated bangers, the rest of the album to me was alright but couldn’t hold the momentum from that song.

Me neither. I love Monsters and it even has one of my all time favorite songs: Devil’s Parade

But for me Despa doesn’t have any songs I need to skip on any album. So maybe I am a bit biased because they arethe closest I can get to a ā€œfavorite bandā€.

I still like to listen to Love is Dead and have a chuckle at how it’s basically ā€œyou spin me right roundā€

But I get it. I got into the band right before they released Monster and antique, and I was kinda surprised it wasn’t as stellar as their earlier work.

D’espairsray had real staying power, but it was because of coll:set and Mirrors, imo. ((Then for the real ones there’s songs like ā€˜tatoeba’ kimi… ga… shinda… ra ))

Given that NUL. had a recent single é»Žę˜Ž basically sounded like old Hizumi vocals… I think they can still surprise us.

Aye mang, if you enjoy MONSTERS, then that’s perfectly cool! Fuck what errbody else thinks! Like what you like unapologetically!

As for me personally, ā€œcoll:setā€ was their only album out at the time that I came across them in 05. I was just dipping my toes into VK around that time, too, so that’s the era of Despa that I became most invested in.

MIRRORS was ok for me, and I actually liked REDEEMER quite a bit. But by the time MONSTERS came out, I was already far into exploring other things musically.

I feel like monsters was a very safe note for them to end on. It was like Redeemer but less conceptual and smoothed out sonically with more electronic influence. I do think it’s their weakest work to date, but I really like songs like ā€œabyssā€, ā€œhuman-clad monsterā€, ā€œdevil’s paradeā€ and ā€œ13 -thirteen-ā€.

With their comeback, if the band ditches the electronic fad that was rampant during the MONSTERS period I actually think continuing on from this point wouldn’t be a bad thing. Given their age I wouldn’t expect them to write anything as hard as pre-Mirror and the music on Monsters feels approriate for a band of their ripeness. But I do hope they bring back some of the bite they used to have.
