D'espairsRay reunion at CROSS ROAD Fest November 15th 2025

They said that if they create new songs, they will try to bring something new. Instead of just continue what they already did. We will see. But the mindset is already good

I didn’t hate Monster—I actually preferred it to REDEEEMER—But if I think about the songs I remember, it’s really only Human-clad Monster and Death Point.

As much as I love Coll: set, MIRROR is my favorite D’espa album.

D’espairsray had real staying power, but it was because of coll:set and Mirrors, imo. ((Then for the real ones there’s songs like ‘tatoeba’ kimi… ga… shinda… ra ))

I had this wet and wild fantasy as I was listening to them last night that they announced their come back with tatoeba as the first track on their next album… A boy can dream ;^;

Interesting theory. I really need to give NUL a good hard, intentional listen.

I wonder, if Hizumi’s voice condition means he can’t do that as much as he’d been doing in the past without meaning he can’t do at all.

Regarding future songs I don’t expect much of the old stuff (but I weren’t sad, if they surprised us). Considering Luv PARADE’s music that sounds way more like late Despa than early Despa in my opinon. Which I don’t mind. My favorite album is Mirror but I also loved Redeemer and Monsters (needless to mention Coll:set of course).

Crossing my fingers for a new song debut at Cross Road

They need to reheat their old nachos…DEZERT made a career off of it so they need to go back to redeemer era puss but a little heavier

If you mean that Dezert does heavy stuff every now and then and incorporates their nu-metal elements in songs frequently — that’s a very smart decision by them or their label. The thing that plenty of bands forget about — just because you succeeded in the heavy music, it doesn’t mean that you will be as successful in the pop-rock / light stuff. Because the “light” music not only over saturated, but also because there far more competent writers and singers (voice control, range, etc) there. And if you go full light mode, you will lose all your heavy core audience while risking not obtaining the lighter one.

So yep, from that perspective Dezert does a good job retaining the old audience, because there’re still Dezert elements so many people came to like

Someone on reddit posted this live journal entry from September 2011. Reads like a prophecy:

A conflict with the management and no rights over their music and their own name, which belong to the label, thus no royalties whatsoever from CD/DVD sales etc. Being paid months later or not at all like in the case of their share from goods sales at Yokohama Blitz final (at least that was the situation when I heard about it back in June, 6 months after the live). They were left with no income while the label cashed in from sales of Yokohama final DVD and another forced “Best of” album.
Asia’s showbiz, be it Korean or Japanese, is notorious for slavery contracts, exploitation of the artists and almost nonexistent royalties. Unfortunately D’espairsRay is a tragic example of a band worked to death and, when they no longer could or wanted to continue, they were discarded. It’s been two and a half months, but I still feel the same rage over what was done to them and I don’t think it will ever change. A part of me is also resentful of D’espairsRay for being so stupid, naïve or just so very desperate to make music that they got themselves into this mess and their only way out was the breakup, that they let some scum in business suits use me, their fan.
I do have hope that they will be back. Be it under a different name, with different songs and after who knows how many side projects, I don’t care. It will still be the four of them together.

I mean i understand that but at the same time in my opinion no other D’espairsray album will hit like Coll:set does. Its one of the critical best albums in loud kei’s history in my opinion.

MONSTERS they did a small experiment with and in my opinion that succeeded. We still have some somber moments of the album while showing the rock side of D’espairsrays with some of the songs on that album remind me of: Ark in the storm or Going on! etc..

Damn, I was a huge fan and had no idea they went through that. Sucks they had to end things not even on their own terms. Super excited they can finally do things their way this time. With projects like LUV PARADE, etc. it’s clear they always wanted to.

Should clarify–DEZERT literally ripped off old D’espairsRay songs and then made a career out of softening that numetal/metalcore aggression. I’d like to see D’espairsRay tap into their older sounds and bring them back, just because so many bands in the current scene are indebted to that sound

As much as I would love it, I don’t think this will ever happen :smiling_face_with_tear:

And despa ripped off Western bands. What’s your point? VK is a copycat genre.

I’ll be in Tokyo on 11/15 and I would go to this but I’ll be seeing Kaijin Nijuu Mensou that night. Would have liked to see Shazna as well.

Like Dir en Grey and Kuroyume? Which songs?

You can get the items through CD Japan proxy shipping.
