Hopefully that doesn’t mean no other activity for 10 months! I wonder if CLIMAX is the name of their next single…
Well they will be in France in June, hopefully, if B7Klan gets their shit together.
(I also somewhat worry, that they might add some onemans, too in europe)
I had a chance to see them when they were on the monster tour back in ‘11 or so. I couldn’t go. Had a ticket and everything but my family said no and it’s the biggest regret that as I teenager never sneaked out to see what would been the last chance to see them live internationally! Hearing that they are back is amazing and the legal management stuff makes sense since Hizumi did nul I wondered for a few years if they were going to come. But all the media stated it was because of Hizumi besides the rumors were creditably in Japanese (which I wasn’t fluent at the time), so the official statements made it seems that Hizumi’s vocal issues made them stop since he couldn’t sing. (Which made no sense when Kyo at the time was sing after every surgery on his cords lol since it was around the same time after the family matters tour and DSS tour) I remember when garnet came out and PIG with reddish diva ver were on repeat forever. I think if you can get passed the sound quality, their earlier songs have this grit that is rooted in this contract that they excel at: beauty melodic verses screamo energy. You hear this perfectly in 凍える夜に咲いた花 and 闇に降る奇跡. They are older than the gazette so I always felt the gazette took large inspiration from what Despa did and continued vk so it’s crazy that the gazette is tanking while Despa is finally back from its ashes. I’m happy to be alive and see this play out
?
Gazette took over from Dir en Grey? The big controversy in 2004/05 was that Gazette tried to be Dir en Grey Copycats (which they were not, but haters gonna hate). But Gazette filled the gap which dir en grey had left.
D’espairsRay had nothing to do with the Gazette. Manias were a different fangroup. Despas itself never got into any controversies at all, and always stayed out of it, with a strong orientation to the west. After all they were the very first bigger band that performed outside of Japan. Also Gazette never did industrial music. So i am not sure where you see the reference.
But i see how heartbreaking it is, to see your favourite band breaking apart. When Despas had to go on a hiatus it killed me. It was very horrible and hard and bad (i have written entire blog posts about it). Despas stopping activities was never because of a conflict. It was a different kind of tragic and sad than what is happening with Gazette.
I lived through a very long time of being sad and missing DespairsRay, and although it never was okay, it was also at some point just what it is. Until Hizumi was able to take up activities with Nul. again at least.
So who knows. Maybe at some point the rest of Gazette can make music again. X Japan could do it, Despas could do it, maybe Aoi and the others will find ways to do music again once, too.
My gasp when I saw it on my notifications ![]()
It’s like they never stopped! I have no words, just way too many emotions all at once. I never thought I’d live to see the day where I get a “new video from D’espairsray“ shows on my screen
I did not expect this to cause such a visceral reaction in me, holy—
B7 better not fuck up my Paris concert
tears in my eyes hearing this :’)
Chills. So many chills. Still can’t believe they’re back.
I can’t believe how great Hizumi sounds. It shakes me to my core.
seeing recent performances from them makes me think about how much time has really passed and how much life i’ve lived since they disbanded. i am so happy to be alive right now lmao ![]()
same reaction here. Stronger than ever.
I was a big fan of Despairs Ray back in the day and was lucky enough to see them 3 times in Europe. After seeing this video, I am toying with the idea of catching them at that festival in Paris… but man, does the whole thing look like a car crash in the making. I really wish they organised a proper one-man live the night before or after. If there’s ever been a VK band that’s been internationally-minded and not afraid of reaching out of their own scene (remember the USA tour with Genitorturers), it’s them. They deserve better than a silly festival slot.
I can see them having a mini latin america tour next year. LATAM vk promoters have been killing it with booking so many bands.
they will surley do one man lives again, but i am not sure they will do it around Paris. Even Japan didn’t get a full tour yet. My guess is, they are working on an album first, hence they scheduled the concert in May/ Paris in June/ and the year end concert in Japan. They did not even set a concert in September.
And then next year they will do one man shows. I am also not sure, if they are not also working on the side projects. After all Nul. will release an album in June plus a Japan tour. And as Viridian said, it could also be, that they first visit north or south america.
That’s why i grabbed a ticket for Paris. If they blow it over, nevermind. If i get to see 45 Min of Despas it will have been worth the money
I smiled so hard….OH MAN.
AND they’re playing in Drop #C Tuning too?? NICE.
I just wish Karyu’s Guitar popped more in the mix but MAN, THE BOYS ARE BYKE!!!
