DIMLIM Sho's hat

this might be the most ridiculous question i’ve asked on this forum.
But if anywhere online y’all show up with specifics on the most random, minor shit, it’s here…

i don’t suppose anyone has any info on this hat Sho wore promoting CHE DO A RA, do you?
whether you might be aware of some brand/artist having been mentioned, or maybe might recognize the style enough to say “oh, look for _____ hat or something made with _______ material”

i’m amazed at how seamlessly this look imho blends Japanese w/ South American(?) traditions; it’s one of few looks that’s left been memorable to me far beyond the music and release it accompanied, and (if at all possible) i’d love to know any more about who, aside from the musicians, played a part in it happening!

It’s like an elegant version of an Australian cork hat, which has the purpose of keeping flies away from the face – as you move, the beads/corks swing, swatting away any flies or bugs.

This hat is exaggeratedly wide, with decorative beads. It’s made of dyed straw/synthetic straw with black lace trim on the top and underside of the brim. The lace trim is also staggered so the scallops of the underside and topside don’t overlap. It’s probably machine stitched, as the trim stands up proximally, as you can see here (it’d lay flat with minimally visible stitching if it had been hand-sewed):

It’s most likely a commercially bought black straw hat with hand-strung beads and some store-bought lace trim – the finished product is certainly not a commercial design, but I wouldn’t say it’s a haute couture piece either. I love how simple it is and yet the effect is so elevated!

The squared shape and wide brim reminds me of Billy Porter’s fringe hat from the 2020 Grammys (made by Sarah Sokol/Smooth Technology).

Unfortunately I can’t find any info on where Sokol might have gotten her inspiration from.

Either way, I’m sure Sho’s hat was designed and made by a costumer for that specific look (eg. creative works Velonyca). As for who specifically, I’d also love to know!

Hmm while I’m not familiar with the band, I do love the fact that Velonyca was mentioned, and I do enjoy finding out who did the styling/costuming work for bands. Scouring through Sho’s follow list doesn’t reap anything, but I will let you know if I find anything! oh! Might you have the album credits for Che Do A Ra? Sometimes they also put makeup and costuming credits.

I knew itd be that one when i saw the title. Haha. Probably rented it from some costume store in Harajuku somewhere, they get the most random stuff. Haha.

Zuriaake (葬屍湖) members wear this style of hat as well, resulting in the hardest image known to man:

(looking twice, it’s a bit different, but still)

That is a totally different hat style, it looks like a traditional Chinese hat with pointed top

Yeah, but I needed an excuse to post the image, so there’s that.
