DIR EN GREY announces EUROPE TOUR24 FROM DEPRESSION TO ________ [mode of Withering to death. & UROBOROS]

Fuckin’ eagle eye, eh Geist? That’s actually worth pointing out.

No, this would not happen in Japan unless someone mentions it during the MC and prompts everyone to sing. Nobody does anything unless prompted in Japan. I don’t think it’s a good idea unless the band pauses to mention it and either gives him a cake, presents etc on stage or asks the audience to sing. It’s not advertised as a birthday show, it’s their tour final, so even more out of place.

Well of course it is not a “birthday show” because that is not a thing in european concerts. But maybe Toshiya would still appreciate it that western fans know about his birthday.

My point is a lot of musicians don’t want that stuff. If they do they’ll definitely do something during the MC. From the sounds of it they aren’t particularly happy to be on this tour, not even wanting to speak to their VIP fans during meet and greets. I wouldn’t go out of my way to annoy them even more by interrupting their flow to randomly sing happy birthday. You asked, I’m just giving you a point of view.

Nobody in Japan would randomly burst into song from the audience. You can say happy bday on his tweets that day.

Also when you get to their age I don’t know too many people who are happy it’s their birthday.

Just got to the hotel from the first show in Berlin. Fucking insane and I’ve never sweated so much in my life.

Also: Wall of deaths during Beautiful Dirt and TDFF, if I remember correctly.

Did you also had the impression that kyo was mixed way to quite? Some parts I could barley hear. Just bass  but at least even Kyo aeemed to be in a good mood. I think I even saw him smile :hushed:

For an overseas show it was mixed pretty well in my opinion.

Btw, they were recording last night’s show extensively. A steady camera, two people filming with bigger cameras and one of these 360 degrees camera sticks. Apparently they didn’t do this at the other shows (to that extent).

I did see a notice on the second day in London (didnt notice on the first but maybe they were about then too) saying it was being recorded but didnt see a lot in the way of cameras just a shit load of mics, so am wondering what theyre planning with all this footage/audio of this tour.

  • Why does everyone keep saying they seem to not be enjoying the tour? They looked like they were their usual selves in London, ive seen on instagram some of the guys saying theyve enjoyed certain shows. Remember Toshiya saying at least he enjoyed playing London and looks forward to coming back and Die/Shinya for what ive seen seem to have enjoyed sightseeing during downtime so not quite sure where these ideas are coming from. Of course they dont wanna talk to the vip fans, have you seen how most of them act? It’d be so awkward for them having some 12 year old with her mum saying she wants said member to marry them.

They’re charging for it. Being kind to those fans is their job at that particular moment. They’re a big enough band to be able to say no if they aren’t willing to give people a minimum amount of respect. 12 year olds don’t know better.

We already know it’s the norm for them to be distant during VIP experiences. Get a signed postcard, have a picture taken with the band behind a barrier, can’t touch/shake hands/hug the members, few words are spoken, Kyo has a bag over his head, etc.

Why they would do these things is simple:

Language barrier.
Shyness.
Introversion.
Bad past experiences with overzealous fans.
Maintaining personae.
COVID-19.

This doesn’t mean they’re not happy.

They put everything into the shows I attended. Really soulful, passionate performances. The crowd was into it, and that energy fed back into the band.

Also see their social media. They seem fine.

Am I reading to much into their posts or do they not sound very optimistic about another overseas tour?

“We hope that there will be a day when we can meet again.”

maybe, they have been around for 27 years now and are getting old so you dont really know what can happen in a year or two…if you get what i mean

I personally wouldn’t read into it too much. Overseas tours don’t happen often, and I’m sure they have no idea when they’ll be back.

They looked still pretty energetic and honestly they are not that old especially in that business. Mick Jagger is 80, Robert Plant is 75, John Bonjovi is 62. Kaoru ist 50, Shinya is 46. They are not in the casket with one foot, please :joy::joy::joy::joy:

I think they say something like this after every overseas tour they do. A polite way of saying “we know we don’t come over here that often so we don’t know when we’ll be back, so thank you all for coming to these shows”

Yeah i think some of you are reading way too deep into these words sometimes. They looked their usual selves on stage and there isnt really anything negative about what they have said, they also say how grateful they are so many people came to see and support them which is pretty positive. Man the DeG fandom is a pain in the ass… haha.

Sounds like they’re being smart and not getting people’s hopes up unnecessarily.

I don’t think it’s worth looking in too deep.

For all we know, they may have US tour dates locked in already.

They’ll be back.
