- Kaoru looks cool, and every time Papa Kaoru looks cool is a plus in my book
- Dunno if they need to reinvent a Vinushka on each subsequent album, so I’m fine without longbois on this record
They don’t like to repeat theirself so is okay if this time no 9 Minutes song. ARCHE was a great album without a long 10 mins track. I like when they move on…
@seelentau were there any reports about whether those new songs they debuted had the DSS tuning (i.e., ADADGBE for guitars), or did they perhaps introduce something new this time?
ADADGBE is getting rather tiring, and saying this as a guitar enthusiast myself
. Wasn’t the whole PHALARIS album basically that?
Phalaris was indeed just that and the only 7-string variation besides that is the Drop A# tuning.
I wouldn’t hold your breath on any other 7 string tunings tbh. Its been 15 years since they started using those 7 string tunings consistently. If change was gonna happen there, we’d have seen it already. Though I WOULD love to see them dip into Drop G like Lynch. has…
My copy of Mortal Downer shipped btw…
Honestly, I’m glad there isn’t another nearly 10 minute track on this. As much as I love Schadenfreude, it’s still deeply rooted in the old Vinushka formula of alternating between brooding and moody and fast and heavy. This doesn’t mean they won’t do it again on Mortal Downer, but it seems less likely the shorter a song is.
At least Kamuy didn’t fall victim to it.
One day we’re gonna have a serious discussion how Kamuy is a top 3 DEG song.
I love too much the progressive metal/rock so i loved these kind of songs Dir did during their career and since we won’t get a 7-10 minutos song this album i did a recap of all them:
DIR EN GREY LONGEST TRACKS
1-MACABRE (2013) > 16:18
2-Macabre -Sanagi no Yume wa Ageha no Hane- > 10:49
3-The World Of Mercy > 10:22
4-Schadenfreude > 9:58
5-DIABOLOS > 9:51
6-VINUSHKA > 9:37
7-mazohyst of decadence > 9:22
8-Kamuy > 9:11
9-Zakuro > 8:37
10-Akuro No Oka > 8:33
11-THE BLOSSOMING OF BEELZEBUB > 7:35
12-Zetsuentai > 7:22
13-ain’t afraid to die > 7:16
14-Ware Yami Tote… > 7:01
Those are the only songs exceed the 8 minutes mark.
I love just about every song on that list. I appreciate a Long Boy
Already? You probably bought it via CDJapan?
Didn’t Arche have six string guitars too from Die (e.g., Tefu Tefu)? I meant something like that anyway.
Back to the album: curious about “Hazumi to Ame” too per the band description. “a heavy gothic song with an industrial feel”? Is Dir going to go The Sisters of Mercy on us? Kyo seems to be a fan (along with Bauhaus)
Or is it going to be another Kaoru-NIN tribute like Phenomenon?
Would love to see them trying out something unusual, band members doing some random stuff - Radiohead mode, sort of.
I love how there are quite of my favorites of them in that list.
Ngl i am not a fan of drop G and was actually annoyed by Ultima when it came out and i didn’t listen to it for years. Now though, Machine and Idol have grown on me heavily.
Hazuki doing gutterals though was pretty neat
Deg are the only band where i actually dig long songs. Diabolos is a masterpiece. I can’t get into bands like Tool for that reason because their songs from what ive heard sound like the equivalent of fighting a sneeze for 15 minutes and as soon as you think your’re about to sneeze it goes away lol
Hate to do it but as resident goth, goth and gothic music (especially metal) are two entirely different things. Goth is a style of rock, Gothic metal is inspired by gothic literature and art etc. Sisters and Bauhaus aren’t like Type O or Evanescence or Theater of Tragedy musically just thematically. ![]()
Yup!
Brutal, I ordered through CDJapan as well and it said they’re waiting “for the pickup date set by the record label” before they ship it.
RIP
Yeah, mine says “Awaiting Release Date” ._.
Mine too.
ISOLATION has to be a somber arrangement of Mortal Kombat theme
Anyone who got the album early?
