Eddie! I firmly believe that this will unexpectedly be the best track on the album.
Slight mess-up in the tracklist: the last track on the site is “カムイ (Mukai)”, but the first two katakana are inverted so it actually says “Kamui”
I’m guessing it’s supposed to be “Mukai” anyways ![]()
Amazing track titles. Hopefully “Eddie” is a tribute to Iron Maiden
Weird, I could’ve sworn the tracklist on the English version said “Kamui” everywhere except for the first version… but now it’s “Mukai” everywhere, which doesn’t make sense… unless it’s a random play-on-words… but do those even work with Katakana?
I honestly doubt they do
I think we’re either looking at 無界 as in “unbounded” or カムイ as in “divine being in Ainu mythology”
Both of them make sense if you ask me so I think it’s just a matter of making a correction
Yeah I’m betting on the English page simply having a human error. Hopefully it gets fixed lol
If that’s the shortened version of Mazohyst they were playing lives years ago then it’s already 100% better than the original.
Oboro as the second track is weird. Makes me wonder if the first track is either an SE or something atmospheric.
Personally I don’t care if the album is on the shorter side. DEG peaked years ago with the 60+ minute albums, and we certainly don’t need more 8 minute tracks if the composition of their recent “epics”’are any indication. I swear if there’s a track on here that has a double time thrash section, then drops out, then surprises you with more double time thrash one more time before the song ends, well… I’m kicking Kaoru in his shins.
More than likely a throwback to the SE of olden days.
Those long albums and epics are part of the reason I dropped out of the fandom after I think it was Uroboros or DSS I don’t recall. It just got boring and overstayed its welcome. One thing about キズ the more I listen to them the more I’m learning that sometimes small doses every 6 months are better than a 90 minute epic every three years.
It’s weird seeing DIR EN GREY name a song’s title in full Katakana (カムイ). Been ages since ピンクキラー and ザクロ.
To say I’m cautiously psyched about this album is an understatement.
interesting tracklist, my curiosity is peAkeD
Right? PHALARIS is also
- The album with the least number of tracks.
- The album with the least number of tracks on disc 2.
- And the first in their three-versions-era not to include any behind-the-scenes material whatsoever.
Maybe saving the behind the scenes for WOWOW or J-LOD at this point.
Probably just as well, the behind the scenes stuff is usually a bit dull. Haha.
And they never show Kyo singing.
Longer albums are a chore to listen to regardless of how good a band is. Arche is a prime example of this. The problem with Arche is that it has wayy too much filler and does not justify the hour and 8 minutes listening experience.
It’s no surprise that Dir en grey’s best albums are also sub 1 hour long. Withering to Death, Uroboros, and The Insulated World are tight listening experiences and don’t get bogged down by a bunch of unnecessary nonsense.
tfw your favorite deg albums are gauze and dum spiro spero ![]()
I do agree that their longer efforts have had diminishing returns in recent years, though. I really hope we hear a more inspired DEG this time either way.
Same, my friend. I loved the two singles we got for the album, so im hoping its more in step with those tracks.
So after talking to some people across the net about the song titles, this is what I got so far:
-
Schadenfreude
-
朧 (Oboro) - Haziness
-
The Perfume of Sins
-
13
-
現、忘我を喰らう (Utsutsu, Bōga o Kurau) - Consciousness, Feeding on Ecstasy
[TN: Weird title, could mean other things like “Reality/Existence, Devouring Ecstasy”.] -
落ちた事のある空 (Ochita Koto no Aru Sora) - The Fallen Sky
[TN: Although technically, the name implies that the sky has fallen before and its current state is undefined, that’s impossible to convey in English.] -
盲愛に処す (Mōai ni Shosu) - Condemned to Blind Love
-
響 (Hibiki) - Echo
-
Eddie
-
御伽 (Otogi) - Night Maiden
[TN: this is also a weird word, since nowadays it seems to mean “phantasy” or “fairy tale”, but originally, it refers to someone that stays with a (young) lord or noble throughout the night, comforting them etc.] -
カムイ (Kamui) - Kamuy
[TN: as this is a proper noun, it’s impossible to translate. Some might know it from Naruto, where it’s written in Kanji as 神威. This would translate to “Might of Gods”. But Kamuy / Kamui are generally speaking divine beings in Ainu mythology.]
Utsutsu, Boga o Kurau sounds straight out of sukekiyo stuff, imo
