What do you mean by edited out? Which part? I know the weird fuzzy section is even more muddy, but it makes the explosion afterwards that much more effective.
Started my second listen and so far I’m warming up to it much faster than I did to TIW.
I love the updates they did to Oboro. It’s just little things, but I actually like all the singles on this album now. Ochita’s changed are a little odd, but overall better to me.
13 and Kamuy are my favorites right now.
Thinking about trying to mix together both versions of Ochita and see if that does anything for me. Haha
Overall, a fantastic listening experience. I’ve only listened through the album once, and my initial feelings are far stronger than how I felt about The Insulated World. It’s a joy to see this band go through somewhat of a Renaissance in their time since Arche. Arche, for me, was a total let down. Since then, they’ve dropped 2 of the best albums in their catalog, hands down.
Generally speaking, on first listen, I much prefer Phalaris to The Insulated World; but won’t be able to articulate those feelings until I’ve had more time with Phalaris.
I’m so glad there are other Mouai ni Shosu fans because I can’t let something that dancey escape me
i love me some the insulated world but phalaris >>>>
I might be in a honeymoon phase but this might be my favorite album from them yet. Im definitely moreso a Uroboros/DSS kind of guy (although Gauze does rank in my top3) but this album just feels like the best parts of uroboros through the insulated world and improves on it all. im on my 5th listen now and im still waiting for my limited edition to arrive lol
Might be a dumb question, but where are all of you listening to this at? Not available on my streaming platform yet.
some peoples copies have arrived early and also someone uploaded it lol
I think it’s against the rules to say, or even mention piracy websites but yeah. That’s where a few folks are hearing it.
I think it’s also already on Spotify in some regions?
A few listens in already and I’m loving this so far, Shinya’s drumming is usually the weakest part of their music for me but imo he absolutely killed it here
Eddie is basically the R to the Core of Phalaris
Definitely need to do quite a few more listens when I’m not tired af to develop a full opinion, but on first listen, I think カムイ is my favourite. For the first album since I started listening to them again, I’m not at all disappointed though.
Just hit YouTube Music for me, all good. Time to pop open the bourbon and have a listen.
I feel like the album might flow better if the first and last tracks were swapped tbh. I think the main problem with the flow of the album for me is that there needed to be another faster/heavier song between 御伽 and Kamuy. 15 minutes of ballad is a little much even though both songs are good on their own.
First impression - alot better than TIW but this one is gonna take time to “grow”.
The production is excellent.
I have to say that nothing from the new songs really blew me away though. Like the first track is solid but if you are used to DeG it just sounds like a mix of everything we have heard from them before (I know you could say this about all the songs but it just lacks that “punch” somehow, something that really stands out).
13 would have been a better single than ochita, Oboro is still solid AF and probably has the best chorus on the album. Utsusu could be a random Sukikiyo song. The ballads felt a bit weak overall, they remind me alot of Arche’s ballads but Arche’s were stronger (first impr). Eddie is alright. Perfume of Sins is one of the better songs on the album, great dark vibes/atmosphere.
But again, way too early for rating it.
Gotta say, I didn’t see the Utsusu thing, but now that you mention it, I hear it. Haha
It could have also been a weird track from Arche.
Listening on the train while I travel for work - only up to Oboro (which I love) at the moment but enjoying it so far! Definitely still sounds a bit like TIW but more refined and Kyo’s Vocals seem more sukekiyo like.
My fav albums are Arche and Uroboros (and maybe vulgar
depends how I feel) so hoping this has a similar vibe as I prefer less ‘ooga booga’ haha
I love kamuy! And hibiki - to be expected I always love their ballad-Esque songs. Also love the first track but the rest seems to blend together a bit will have to give another listen as diru tracks definitely seem to grow on me over time! Overall definitely an improvement on TIW (for me anyway!)
-1 for the poor VST orchestrations (The Perfume of Sins/13’s violin, Kamuy’s contrabass)
+1 for Kyo which -sadly- still carry the whole PHALARIS.
13 might be my fav, Otogi and Hibiki are two great tracks, Schadenfreude is a cool opening if it’s not for the overdubbing Kyoesque vocals, when Kamuy is a perfect closure.
I used to prefer their most violent track, but since TIW with Aka, I now tend to prefer their calmer/softer/slower songs when Shinya doesn’t unnecessarily overabuse his blastbeats.
They always seem to butcher album versions of their singles for some reason ![]()
