i wanna go to this festival for qotsa but idk if i wanna go to a festival to see diru. how in general do those audiences take to them? i don’t want to die of secondhand embarrassment lol
it’s very hard to say, the last time they played at a festival this big was what, 2013? and times have changed a lot since then. a band like jiluka played at two big metal festivals in south america and the audience seemed to like them. if it was 2011 i’d reckon there’d be cans thrown on the stage and such (like diru did during their early festival going days).
i also think that they’re going to be very particular about how things are set up and so on so there’ll be no incidents and mishaps like before. for example in 2015 (the last year they did a festival) they got set to play at the same time as metallica’s headline show was going, so the audience was incredibly small and i think it was raining at the same time, there are some pictures of it and god it looks sad.
I did saw them in the good old days of vk hype at two smaller festivals. Octopus Rock (Belgium) and Mera Luna (Germany) and they went very well. Oktopus Rock had terrible weather … rain and thunderstorm but still a good gig.
Woa! Where did this happen? …
It surely is not everybodies cup of tea but at least it stands out And I think that’s kinda the point of the whole vk thingy
Basically their original singer passed away, then Dope’s singer replaced him as something like a ghost…and they go on like that…must admit sounds very vkish
Since they’re only doing two “mode of” tours in California, I’m curious if they will keep their setlist to crowd pleases or more new stuff.
I’m really interested to see how this goes.
Wacken is one of the bands most over hated shows. Next to FEAST OF V SENSES (and AGE AQUIS), that’s one of the bands more intense live performances. They made the best of the poor circumstances IMO.
Till this day, nothing tops how fire that first verse of DIFFERENT SENSE was. Die and Shinya were CARRYING the band.
Kyo and how PISSED he was FUELED HAGESHISA.
And mid way through that set, everyone was feeding off that intensity. Its aged like fine wine.
I witnesed the Wacken Performance live and it was indeed awful. The sound was all over the Place and the people litterally fleed away from the stage. I even brought all of my friends there telling them that‘s my favourite band. My musical taste was not really approved after that haha.
But in retrospect it was a fun experience and I love to watch the Videos of that performance.
But was that entirely their fault? Sounds like there was no time to make sound tests before or something like this. I mean Kyo has his ups and downs but the others play relativly consistent, no?
Anyway, throwing stuff on the stage is so childish and disrespectful… as if a band plays bad on purpose. Or it’s their fault that they don’t fit the audience taste…
I don’t know if it was their fault. Other bands at Wacken didn’t have those sound problems on this day. The videos from the perfomance don’t sound as bad as it was in front of the stage. It really was all over the place: The guitars were distorted, the drum was way too loud, left and right speakers changed every few seconds - it was really a pain to the ears. But Japanese bands seem to often have problems setting up their stage equipment outside of Japan. Maybe the standard is different?
That’s the only explanation I can think of. Also nothing one would do on purpose and that’s exactly what sound checks are for. I could image that with the many bands playing there, there was not enough time to get the seetings correct.
