That happens to me with anything before DSS
Sample replacement is pretty common if not almost entirely the norm right now. Uroboros has a very inconsistent drum sound across the entire album. Compare the snare sound in Vinushka to the one in Red Soil. It’s like two different drum kits. So I can understand if they wanted a consistent sound with the remaster, but what they chose probably sounds even less natural than what was already there.
Oh for sure. I myself augment live drums with samples all the time in my own productions (and often just wholesale replace the kick if it’s supposed to be a super modern metal production). But I try and spend a large chunk of time manually setting the velocities of the MIDI notes to follow the dynamic arc of the live drums, and make it so that you wouldn’t think there’s samples but rather a very well done and powerful drum recording.
At least people aren’t replacing cymbals yet - if somebody is using samples for cymbals it’s damn near guaranteed no live drums were tracked to begin with and they just programmed the entire thing from the start.
I definitely hear what you’re saying about the inconsistent sounds on the original release. Not even just the snare, but the toms as well. Some songs it sounds like roto-toms, others like normal ones. I wouldn’t be too surprised if they were experimenting with different kit setups. As you say, it almost sounds like entirely different kits on some songs.
The replacement on the remixed Uroboros sounds better in some places than others. Usually my main gripe is about snare rolls when it comes to samples, but I think the worst part is actually the quiet part in Vinushka when Shinya is just riding that one tom for a while. On the re-mix version of the album the resonance of that single tom is soooooo overbearing and honestly ruins the vibe of that section of the song for me. I want it to be much more in the background and a supportive part, rather than sitting up front in the mix.
Spilled milk as the opening song, what id do to experience that ;_;
Also ningen wo kaburu is getting so fucking boring now its so overplayed, i would take sustain the untruth over it any day but this time they did both
dreambox huh? okay then
That setlist is Not Very Good, but Tefu Tefu into Dreambox sounds nuts. A few others I’d like to see like Saku, but I can’t believe they’re still closing shows with Sustain the Untruth lmao. The untruth been sustained long enough, guys, you can stop now.
At this point they may as well rerecord what’s left of Marrow and release a second version of the album, they seem pretty into playing those songs these days.
I don’t know. I’m looking at that set and the first nine songs are all great. Could’ve done without STU for sure. Other than that, it seems okay to me.
Welp, happy they’re still playing Rubbish Heap.
Also, I hope we’ll have T.D.F.F. live recording somewhere
I still enjoy sustain the untruth a lot (they seem like they’re having fun!) so I can’t really talk taste, but I am into the entire setlist.
It’s not their worst setlist - it being populated mostly by Withering, Marrow, and TIW feels boring to me at this point since that’s pretty much exactly what they were doing pre-pandemic - & my bias is definitely showing, those are my bottom three releases from them. It was fun material when I saw them live, no doubt, but reading this setlist just made me groan a bit.
Part of me is glad they’re sticking with stuff they can reliably pull off live - except Dreambox apparently lmao - and the tour setlist could turn out alright if they pull out some weird ones on different dates. Tefu Tefu is a promising inclusion. I just wouldn’t be the most jazzed if I knew I was going to be watching this set (though tbf I would pay money to watch Kyo do his favorite Fortnite dances on stage for an hour, so it’s not like I would refuse to sit through this set)
I’m always interested in the deep cuts this band chooses to save for random dates. I’d kill to hear a new version of HYDRA -666-. It’s so superior to the original it’s not even funny.
I’m also happy to see T.D.F.F. and Tefu Tefu in there. Two really great songs live. And I heard Saku live already, and it was nuts, so that’s a way to end a show! Pretty good setlist IMO, and there’s no StU for you guys either!
Would kill for 666>Rubbish>T.D.F.F. combo.
Thats a banger setlist
Wow ty deg for addressing my complaints I guess. I think Clever Sleazoid and Utafumi being fixtures right now isn’t great, but it makes sense for now - and it’s hard to complain if they’re gonna shuffle around deep cuts so much for these dates. Shitataru Mourou and Karasu??? Nice. Opening with Rinkaku is cool too. Sounds like a good show.
Welcome back, Vinushka
Edit: Aka going into Tefutefu is terrific. I also really hope they find a spot for Dozing Green acoustic during this tour.
Kyo was diagnosed with an acute bronchitis.
Its been a really long time since Kyo postponed something because of his health, I wonder if hes going to quit smoking for real this time.
