DIR EN GREY

Out of interest, what don’t you like about Celebrate Empty Howls? Surely Devote My Life is the more offending track

Devote My Life is easily the most skippable track on the album

honestly having trouble remembering what it sounds like since I’ve skipped it so much at this point

I literally do not clearly remember any other song from TIW besides Ranunculus lmao
If you played any other song from that album, I wouldn’t be able to tell you its title

My least favorite on TIW is Zetsuentai. It would be a lot better if the double time heavy sections didn’t sound like oversimplified versions of the fast heavy parts in Vinushka. Or if they just weren’t there at all.

Somehow I found this topical meme:

it could have been a such much better track, if they didn’t ruined it with the heavy part.
The screams in the heavy part were pretty dissapointing.
the best part of the track was the first verse, but of course they didn’t bothered to do more with it

Speaking about Devote My Life, it makes more sense to listen to DML’s live renditions or bass covers. Toshiya is basically meat&potatoes of this song.

Since others already mentioned Zetsuentai and Celebrate Empty Howles, I would mention Downfall. Don’t hate it, but I would prefer much more agressive drumming during faster tremolo parts. Feels like Shinya is slacking there (and it pains me to say this, because I really like his drumming in almost all TIW songs).

At this point I’m just used to Shinya’s trademark “bum tap bum tap bum tap” during heavy parts. It’s just that it’s also a major reason why so much of DEG’s heavier material sounds redundant. You could probably swap the heavy parts in World of Mercy and Zetsuentai and barely notice.

I wouldn’t mind swapping whole songs around, lol.

And dunno. Keibetsu to Hajimari seems to have similar drum part (if I’m not deaf, at least), but it feels like guitar parts were written having Shinya’s drumming in mind.
EDIT. Never mind. KtH has “bum tap tap bum tap tap” while Downfall has “Bum tap bum tap”, if I’m correct.

Yeah Keibetsu is a bit more elaborate at least in terms of Shinya’s footwork. There’s more of a gallop. Shinya does some great stuff with his hands, but his feet need to catch up.

Keibetsu is one of the best tracks Dir en grey have done in years. In terms of their “”“heavy”"" songs, it’s easily their best. The rhythm isn’t so bland, Shinya clearly put some effort into his parts, and the way the instruments play off each other provides a richness in sound a lot of their “”“heavy”"" songs are missing.

Ah man, all this hate on Devote My Life is killing me. Haha. I actually love this track, it’s so off the wall and actually has a weird sort of groove about it. Shinya coming full on with that train beat… haha. I dunno just something about how weird and discordant it is is just right up my street. Haha.

I guess we’re discussing TIW now?

Yeah, I don’t get the hate this track has accrued. It’s wild. I especially like the weird skittering farty synth in the ZANKOKU NA section. The whole song is just incredibly unsettling and feels completely unique to the discography.

Best moment of the album for me is the last 50 seconds of Downfall. And the whole of Values of Madness.

HA. I WAS RIGHT.
So yeah, 15 secs of T.D.F.F. MV was shown on Galacaa. Same location, same looks (apart from Kyo who is in sportwear).

I don’t understand as much about music in a technical sense as many of you here.
Saying this, I also say (since this is now a TIW discussion) that the only track that seems less memorable to me is Followers.
It’s like it’s a separate track from the album. As if it had to be on CD2

So how do you guys think Kyo got obsessed with this “bullying of cows/bulls”? As a concept for the new album… lol

Honestly I understand what you mean. By DEG “rock ballad” standards it’s not really a stand out and more or less sounds like it shares the same ideas as Behind A Vacant Image. Toshiya is the one that’s really holding Followers together.

I dunno, Followers wasn’t one of my favourites in the beginning but its grown on me tbh and i can enjoy it plenty now.

I was told that Kaoru said in today’s stream that the album is 1/3 done, but that he’s confident it will be completed in time.

…well, good for him, being confident and all lol
I only believe it when I see it

As long as they’re not getting help from Yoshiki I’m sure it’ll come out
