Quite honestly, I’m not sure I want to know the lyrics for the new Mazohyst. Has nothing to do with the subject matter, I’m just wondering if Kyo removed a lot of the more interesting nuances from the original lyrics like he did with Tsumi to Batsu 2011. I mean the original Tsumi wasn’t exactly obtuse, but the remake went as far as namedropping a convicted sex offender in the lyrics (which oddly enough was one of the many lines omitted from the censored version)
To be fair, a lot of music is political, especially rock music. Even Diru, while not often suuuuper openly political, have had tinges here and there - notably, like I said above, I interpret ‘The IIID Empire’ to be pretty blatantly anti-authoritarian, and the band even made some kind of direct statements against the government around 10 years ago.
Like, if mods don’t want us to talk politics at all that’s fine, I get that. But I think the question of “is this music or politics” misses how much the two topics are intertwined.
The new lyrics of mazohyst are pretty tame, from what I know. I don’t have a confirmed text, but a friend made a copy by ear and I put it in DeepL, so yeah… they’re rather generic.
Cannot help but revive this brief conversation regarding who composed what exactly:
Should we worry that PHALARIS has no base Kyo, Toshiya, and Shinya contributions at all? Die and Kaoru are the ones now providing the base on top of which each member puts up something of their own.
Might be due to their side-projects? Toshiya has his fashion thing (Dirt) going on, Shinya has SERAPH, and Kyo has sukekiyo + Petit Brabancon? Die is not focusing on Decays anymore and who knows if Kaoru bothers to put up a side-project.
Some unrelated extra:
"6:14 Should I talk more about the album? Hmm, what should I talk about the album… We already preformed 3 songs from the album at live concerts, did you guys hear? I still can’t remember the song Schadenfreude and I am barely playing it. Well, I remember quite a bit now…
6:59 The song The Perfume of Sins has very fast drum parts but I am playing the drums while loosening up my body so it’s not that hard but if I lose my focus even for a moment, it’s over, so I need to concentrate very much. Also we perform the song Hibiki and I really enjoy playing the drums. "
lul, those three haven’t really brought in much in ages.
The last song Kyo wrote was Ware, Yami tote…
As for Shinya, he contributed to The World of Mercy, but before that it was Cause of fickleness.
And Toshiya did Values of Madness and Devote My Life.
Kaoru has always been the main song writer, with support from Die.
Wasn’t The World of Mercy literally a combination of Shinya’s base (non-heavy parts) and something else that Kaoru came up with? I remember forum people here mentioning this. No wonder it still sounds rather awkward.
I am worried still though that Dir is going to become a box of Kaoru’s ideas (Perfume?) rather than a united bottom-up effort.
Which songs has Kyo composed? I only know for a fact that S and TDFF are his.
pretty sure Hades is a kyo song too
“S”, Karma (1997), ain’t afraid to die (with Die), The Domestic Fucker Fucker Family (and I guess the remake?), HADES, Sajou no Uta, RED…[em] and MARMALADE CHAINSAW (all with Die) and Ware, Yami tote…
It’s been this way for quite some time, if not always. The vast majority of Dir’s early credited contributions are to Kaoru, then Die.
That’s my Papa Kaoru
Some fact-checking might be needed, but didn’t Shinya credit himself for VANITAS (sounds more like a Die song though)?
At least that was the hint I got from this video below:
Kyo didn’t compose Yokuso Ni Dreambox?
@seelentau
Could you please verify whether the info here (check “原曲”) is valid regarding what @Zudokato21 raised and what was mentioned here, or is this wiki all bogus?
And whether this blogger is being truthful about this info:
https://key-chnoblog.hatenablog.com/entry/DIRENGREY/DUMSPIROSPERO
Yeah, you’re right, Kyo did compose DREAMBOX. I missed his name when looking over the list.
VANITAS is Die’s song though.
These are the only ones with unknown composers:
Do you have the list of known composers listed somewhere on degwiki?
It will be really cool have a list of all compositions per album from Vulgar to DSS. (Because in Japanese Wikipedia we can find from Arche to PHALARIS), Also we know that… Kaoru did DIFFERENT SENSE & DIABOLOS, Die did LOTUS and Vanitas, Toshiya did Akatsuki and Shitatarou Murou and Kyo did DREAMBOX.
No, not on my wiki, I only list what the albums say. This information comes from magazine interviews.
Ahh true. Do you have a list somewhere else an obsessive like me can peruse
THE FATAL BELIEVER (please someone leak the 2006 recording) seems to be a Die effort though, no? Think he was the one that juggled with the first and later redo ideas for the song? Degwiki cites the TMOAB liner notes:
Die: When we re-recorded the song, I listened the old version and realized that my riff was basically ‘wrong’. I played the song under whimsical speculation. When I realized that, I got tired of myself. (laugh) I thought, it was a song that should have been re-recorded. But the song was, since before, one that suits me very well and is easy to play.
Also, Jesus Christ R’n’R had a live prototype that was much funkier (according to wikipedia notes), implying that Die might be the one guy again that laid out the blueprint for this song (again, everyone contributes to each song later on).
It could help if there were reports existing to our day about 2004 versions of those WtD songs (such as “Beautiful Dirt”).
