Korn owes much of their (especially early) sound to Faith No More. They cited The Real Thing and Angel Dust as inspiration. You can hear where Fieldy got his slap-bass technique from in Epic.
Maybe they also got the tracksuit idea from FNM. Around the time of the A.D.I.D.A.S. single, the band approached Adidas for brand sponsorship but despite probably doing a lot for them commercially, were turned down.
Dir en grey’s adoption of tracksuits was most likely solely as a business venture. If they looked just like the top American tracksuited nu-metal bands, surely they’d break into the global market! Tbh they should’ve stuck with something similar to their VULGAR-era look; that’d have turned far more heads than a cookie-cutter aesthetic. That’s maybe the only thing I wasn’t fond of in the UROBOROS era; the lack of VK fashion.
I’m glad Shinya won this battle and the tracksuits are gone.
Their looks now-a-days aren’t very make-up heavy and the like, but suit their musical style and vibes much more. They found a very nice sweet spot where Kaoru/die can be in tshirts while Kyo/Shinya/Toshiya are in full costumes and it all blends nicely
it was a joke in the cyclical hellhole of the Dir en grey internet threads; don’t make claims anyone in the VK fanbase had any clue what you have all been gloating about
we just stayed around to seethe at another clown-kei look, skrillex haircut or whatever they did at the time as kaoru’s masculinity crisis progressed, dragging the entire band down
hi all. sorry for bad English. In one of his interviews, Kaoru responded to a question about FNM as follows: “Why is everyone asking about this group, I recently got acquainted with their albums.” This was when DIR first came to the US. It follows that Dir did not know about Mike Patton before the overseas tours. But the milieu of Mike fans they found themselves in (korn, deftones, stone sour etc) forced them to listen to FNM. Therefore, I believe that the influence on Kyo was at least due to the fact that foreign colleagues thought Mike was cool. But that doesn’t mean Kyo is a fan)
Every now and then I’ll re-listen to DEG’s discography. Typically, my rankings haven’t changed much over the years; but based on my most recent listen, a lot has changed.

Macabre – this album sucks. When I was much younger, I LOVED this album. Looking back, I have no idea why. Aside from Macabre the album isn’t very good. It’s also sandwiched between two superior albums.
Every song on MACABRE is an absolute classic for the band.
The only one that (subjectively) sucks is audrey. It’s not awful imho, just mediocre compared with the rest.
I’m personally not a huge fan of the domestic squabble on Berry but the song itself is good. Looking through the track list, I’m struggling to think of anything else bad to say. For me, it’s an almost perfect album.
Yeah, im not a fan of those samples either, they’re just a bit annoying. Haha. As I’ve mentioned in other posts, 太陽の碧 isnt my vibe really. The intro is nice but when it properly starts its automatically ruined for me. Haha.
Only thing that ruins the song for me are the moaning schoolgirls having a beach party (?) on the remix. Seems at odds with the beautifully melancholy lyrics.
Several MACABRE remixes have random samples of people talking in the background. So weird. @seelentau do we have translations for these? Perhaps something to add to the wiki.
