I hope they Remake garden using the Mountain Dew guitar

Psst, there’s an album scorebook

I think this song is the whole reason Kaoru had the 7-string Ganesha’s made, since it’s the only song I think before Obscure that’s on a 7 (I’ve got the Vulgar scorebook as well, Obscure has Kaoru on a 7 and Die on a 6 similar to Keloid, w/ Toshiya using a 5-string). But yes the tuning you gave is correct - at certain points Kaoru is doing an inverted power chord, hitting the same chords as Die but adding a 5th under the root note with that low G# string to make it thicker. When I’ve tried different voicings in the left and right it’s also helped make the guitars feel wider!

The scorebook doesn’t provide a tuning but you’re correct about the tuning, it’s tabbed where you’d have to be on a 6 tuned down to D

More to the topic-
I think as people go on, they may just sort of settle into tunings? I used to bounce around more when I was younger but over the past maybe 8-ish years I’ve sort of locked in to drop B for 6-strings. After enough time it’s just become my reference point for stuff, and even when starting to try and learn something by ear, even melodies and leads, my internal pitch reference is based on that lol.
Maybe that’s happened to Kaoru and Die? Where when there’s something they hear in their heads for a Diru song, that reference point of where the notes are is based on that ADADGBe tuning
I don’t mind what naturally comes to them in this tuning, hell a good number of my favorite songs in their discography have come about since they’ve settled into it. But I can see what you mean, it all lends itself toward a specific direction - if they’d let themselves have more variety again, there might be some more spice across an album’s worth of material.

Does that chord have a name? Now that I look at it, it looks like C# Standard, but with the D string not adjusted at all, and a low G# thrown on top.

Probably just “inverted power chord” lol. Chord inversions are where you take a note other than the root of the chord and make that the lowest note - e.g. a first inversion C Major would be E C G instead of C E G. Since power chords only have a root and 5th, the only option for an inversion is putting the 5th underneath the root

They could go with lower tunings, but I think Kaoru needs to let go of that old Road King Dual Recto and upgrade to something that isn’t so muddy, but then that begs the question-

Arche had an amazing, clear-ish sound without being too muddy. What the fuck happened since TIW to make their guitar tracking sound like doodoo wrapped in tinfoil

Someone plugged a cable in wrongly. It sounded super muddy and they were like: :heart_eyes::heart_eyes: That’s it! Our sound!

Now that you brought it up, does anyone know what gear they’re using lately?

At this point we need Kaoru to make an account and answer all of our questions.

Please understand, this production sound was necessary in conveying the unique worldview of pain in human existence through DIR EN GREY’s music.

They’re in sludge metal territory now which means sweet delicious mud. They actually put AI John Wayne Gacy in TDIM music video to ritualistically channel the spirit of Acid Bath lol

I hope it doesn’t, ngl i’ve learned a lot over the years bc of this forum; it’s one of the only places where i hear technical shit talked about citing artists/sounds i’m interested in!

The thing is though it’s just not sludgy enough to be real sludge. Not since Tsumi to batsu remake anyways. It’s more like juice with a teaspoon of gravy mixed in.

Dir en gravy you say?

I would love if they explored the Tsumi to Batsu remake and Warsaw no Gensou sound more
