DIR EN GREY

That would make sense. Maybe the altered re-recordings were pushed by the label or someone else in the band.
Now that I think of it, their recent re-recordings were pretty much unaltered while the re-recordings from around 10 years ago were new interpretations, the last ones being released on Vestige of scratches 7 years ago.

it’s a subtle way to tell that their classic old material is retaken with emphasis on not repelling domestic old fans solely to stroke kaoru’s ego

they’re still largely a live band, kyo is not dependent on Deg alone anymore (+I don’t think sukekiyo and petite bruh are going to tour abroad), and the remaining 3 members probably don’t want to be hostages of kaoru’s zany and novel ideas i.e. to deconstruct zan as a 25 minute noise track with sampled kyo’s screams taking over 80 % of its length because their fans won’t show up for live performance of that.

Well, sukekiyo already toured abroad actually. Besides that, I pretty much agree.

Anybody here have any idea why Kyo very rarely shows himself (at least performing) in making of clips?? + I have to wonder why after all these years he never seems to have opted for a wireless mic.

Dunno about his lack of interest in being in anything behind the scenes, but as for his corded microphone, he’s incorporated it into a lot of his onstage gimmicks.

He probably records in the vocal booth naked.

I remember seeing his lil pantomime thing he does during The World of Mercy live, it’s sorta cheesy looking when watching live recordings but in person it was actually sort of unsettling. Had a lot of impact, I thought

Then there’s also just the added peace of mind in a wired system. A lot of things can go wrong with wireless that a hardline gets rid of entirely

he broke the cord while playing with it during The World of Mercy when I saw them live last time in Chicago so we got the final part of the song instrumental with him trying to scream his heart out.

I’ve seen this video a few times, it’s so powerful to me. He’s so caught up in the moment that at first he doesn’t even realize what’s happened, and once he does he’s just like “fuck it” and keeps going. The performance and the moment matter most, and he’s not letting anything stop him. The rest of the band keeping it going helps as well - no awkward stops, no obvious confusion, just the performance.

I bet you and everybody else in the audience at this show felt like it was a sublime moment. The audience reaction in the video certainly sends that message to me, there’s such an outpouring of love in the screams the audience is giving him

it was cool but honestly would have preferred actually hearing the vocal climax. that’s the best part of the song.

They did the professional thing as they should have, but it wasn’t the ideal outcome lol

That’s fair. Maybe it would be different if the crowd knew all the words and were able to sing for Kyo? Who’s to say lol

I’m the kind of person who lives for those kinds of moments, I think. I used to play in the DIY scene where I grew up and shows would have all kinds of fuck-ups but we always made the most of it, and now some of my favorite show memories come from those moments

They just need to write more songs with a cappella parts like Shokubeni!

Yeah I get there’s novelty to unique moments, but in a set that was almost entirely TIW, losing out a bit on my favorite musical moment in the whole set was disappointing. But it was a good show, Deeper Vileness was an excellent encore.

not sure how a bunch of weebs singing along to this part would have gone, but maybe it would have been the ultimate concert moment

He actually looks like hes enjoying performing hands free. Haha. Seriously though, where the hell are the crew? Arent they supposed to be on hand for this kinda situation? He probably just kept performing thinking someone would be behind him sorting it and would give him a working mic back. Haha.

I fucking love The World of Mercy. Inject that straight into my veins.

When I saw them on that tour in NYC, The World of Mercy was the last song of the primary set before the encore set - I guess the idea was “well, he’s vibing out and they’re about to come off-stage for a moment, just let him do his thing” lol

Thats fair. Now you mention it I think it was the same situation in London on the same tour cycle. I mean World of Mercy being the song before the encore not the mic situation. Haha.
