Drop D Kote Kei

Calling all musicians!

Anyone got any kote songs recorded in Drop D? I always thought kote and E standard were inseparable but I found one song that is in Drop D and it changes my perception of what is possible. Anyone got any more?

Hard for me to tell, but sounds like E standard. Let me go tab it out and get back to you.

It’s E standard. The bass gives it away.

The song that I was alluding to earlier was grieve by Marvelous Cruelty. I was tricked by the tone of the bass at first because the guitars are in E but the bass is in D. I even tuned my guitar to drop D and played along. This still counts in my book.

Here’s the tab I made.

1999 by Luna Sea is largely in Drop D all across the board. J/s.

I’m reviving this topic because I found another song by this kote kei band that I’m actually convinced is Drop D. Problem is, I have no one to confirm that it’s the case. Wouldn’t surprise me if Suzuran finally made the transition - he was flirting with Drop D with grieve.
