Favourite or legendary concerts you've attended?

Do you have live shows you’ve attended that became legendary? Maybe you saw X Japan on their last live? Or you saw another legendary band that isn’t around anymore? Share your favourite concerts, live shows and highlights!

For me, I think it’s pretty awesome to be on a blu-ray of your all time favourite band (DIR EN GREY, Berlin 2024). So that is one of my absolute highlights!

Another thing I really appreciate is that I was able to see Slipknot and Slayer live with all the original members (unholy alliance tour, Geneva 2004).

And seeing Mayhem perform one of the greatest Black Metal albums in full (de mysteriis dom sathanas alive, Zagreb 2017) was awesome!

There is one concert that instantly crossed my mind: I saw Moi Dix Mois in Leipzig at the WGT Festival. That was a long time ago, approx. around 20 years. Therefore, I also don’t remember as much from that performance as I would like to  I wish I could experience this again because I think I didn’t appreciate it at the time as fully as I would do today. I did not realize then what a rare occurrence this concert was and did not know yet how deep I would care for this band.

Also: I saw multiple Miyavi performances through the years, but the first one is one the one I remember best  It was in Bonn during the Animagic Convention, probably also in the mid 2000’s. As I learned about that concert relatively late it was already sold out, but I got a ticket via ebay and went there all by myself. Maybe that is why I remember it comparatively well as it is to this day the only concert ever that I visited alone.

DIR EN GREY at Olympia (Paris) in 2005, the first live of DEG in France and in the most prestigious concert hall from Paris. Great memories and my first vk live.

I was at The GazettE’s Tokyo Dome Concert and L’arc~en~Ciel’s Paris concert.

Oh and D’espairsRay’s Human Clad Monsters Tour Final in 2010 which turned out to be their last live…. :smiling_face_with_tear:

Saw the GazettE play for the first time in New York back in 2016.

One of the best set lists ever and that crowd was awesome. It felt like a fucking party in there. We RAGED when Ruki yelled “JUMP JUMP” during DOGMA.

AWWWWWWW MAN. I’m hype thinking bout that shit.

I even ended up in the documentary DVD for that tour.

One of the legendary concerts I’ve attended was Dir en Grey in Berlin back in 2005, which was their very first performance outside of Asia. More recently, their special 2-day shows in Berlin in 2024 stood out, as they recorded everything and released it as a DVD.

Over the Edge 2010 at Namba Hatch. It was my first trip to Japan, I was 19 years old, and I was able to see almost all of my favorite bands perform: heidi., Sadie, girugamesh, 12012, etc. What an incredible experience.

Runners up would be …

  1. heidi.’s 10th anniversary at Akasaka Blitz in 2016 and

  2. The AM2 anime convention in Anaheim, CA in 2011 where heidi. and Sadie both randomly appeared the same weekend I (already) booked a trip with my girlfriend to Disneyland a month prior. God must’ve been smiling at me that day, lol.

Dir en Grey’s Melbourne live, Zetsumei’s final live, Kizu and Dezert’s budokan lives, I also have the DVDs for Kizu and Dezert as well as Codomo Dragon’s Christmas Eve Club Citta DVD, so far I’ve spotted myself in Kizu and Codora’s DVDs, not sure if it counts but I’ve seen myself in some live shots and videos some bands have posted on social media which was lowkey jarring lol

No legendary concerts persay, but I’ve been to a lot of bangers.

As far as VK goes, I’ve seen DEG many times when they used to tour the states (not just cali-freaking-fornia). You can actually see me in one of Toshiya’s insta posts

I remember that tour. That was one of my favorite shows. They were amazing on stage. Tracks like “Hollow” are completely different live and I hear it differently since I saw them perform it.

Outside from VK, I’ve seen all kinds of artists.

Purity Ring during their Another Eternity era

Perturbator and GosT during their first USA tour. That was an amAZING show

Charli XCX. I even met her in person at a Newbury Comics meet and greet session where I basically told her I didn’t know who she was until about a week ago, but that I liked her music.

The most “legendary” concert for me was seeing Abigail Williams, Kalmah, and Ensiferum all at the same concert. It was the last concert I’ve attended back in 2019 and I couldn’t believe I was standing in that room watching these big names perform on stage. They were all amazing. Abigail Williams had good stage presence. Kalmah are masters at their craft. And Ensiferum are phenomenal showmen. I don’t know that another concert I attend can ever top this one

@Ro_pls i was at that show too! It was incredible and definitely one of my favorite shows I’ve ever been to. There was a pic taken from the back of the audience where you can see my head, lol.

otherwise, I saw X at MSG and Schwarz Stein at Anime USA which I never thought I’d see them live at all, and they put on an amazing show. Hora is …. So handsome and charismatic.

non-VK but when I was like 14 - I sent an email to the address on Evanescence’s website contact us page, asking them to play my hometown and play my then-favorite song (Missing, a deep cut). They actually ended up doing just that and before they played Missing, they said it was a fan request. I couldn’t believe it.

It’s really huuuge! And even when the concert set up is in use, it still keeps something of it’s sports arena vibe. But maybe that was just so glaring to me because I never got to sport events

I read several times that it’s rumored it was not very sucessful but I can’t recall thinking it seemed empty. And I am pretty sure I would remember that. I was very far away from the stage and could only see them on the screen, tho. The atmosphere is cool because it’s such a special thing to be able to perform at Tokyo Dome but I am happy not all their concerts are huge arenas shows. I really wanted to go to Tokyo Dome once in my live and I am glad I had the opportunity to see one of my favorite bands but I don’t know if I would go again because you really don’t see much if you don’t get a super good ticket. You reallygo for the vibe.

But than again…. for them I’d probably go again

Forgot I saw girugamesh (at their only?) state-side show in Seattle, at Sakura-con in 2009 (?), where the meme originated from.

Other runner’s up would be seeing An Cafe in Edmonton, Alberta and NoGoD in Calgary, Alberta (my home town) in 2016.

Annnnd lastly… another heidi. live in LA back in 2015 where I saw them perform an acoustic set in a hotel room to about 15 people

first time seeing DIR EN GREY back in 08 is still one of my favorite memories. arriving very early at the venue to get a good spot and meeting some cool people in line.

ASOM -unplugged- days

i lived in Puerto Rico so we did not get many metal concerts but one time Dream Theater showed up and I decided to go see them because why not and Between the Buried and Me were the opening band and it was the best surprise ever. The crowd did not like them since it was mostly old dudes that were the for DT but i sure as hell welcomed that surprise

Visual-kei wise: Versailles’s tour final in front of a castle in Orléans was pretty much up there!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBdjrY0EzjU&ab_channel=MathieuLm (sorry for the quality)

Also saw SuG’s last live at Budokan, it was incredible! Being second row, I (sadly) appear quite a lot in the DVD lmao
But to be fair I look back at all my concerts in Japan with fondness haha

Other wise, each time I see Lady Gaga and Beyoncé live I think “well, this is the best thing I’ll ever see, it’s a wrap”. And somehow, they manage to do better every time.

For me that definitely was Gazette in Munich, 2019.06.18.

You know, I actually had a ticket for the show in munich, had the hotel booked and everything. But then a few days before my depression hit and I didn’t go. I still regret that I didn’t attend given it was their last show with Reita on european soil.

I’m sorry to hear that (the reason itself and not going as well).

I’ve been to Cologne two days before as well which was great but Munich was a blast.
