GALNERYUS shared a new band picture along with the announcement of a new special album and a tour following the release. “BETWEEN DREAD AND VALOR” will be released on March 1. The First Press and both complete production limited editions will contain an additional DVD with the band’s performance at Shinjuku BLAZE on August 12, 2021.
The lead track “RUN TO THE EDGE” will be released on January 18.
Edit: it alright. The production sounds off. I’m listening on my usual streaming platform which I don’t have issues with, but this sounds a lot worse than Union Gives Strength. And if we’re comparing this to Flames of Rage in terms of lead singles? Woof this does not sound good. They already have my money though lmao, so hoping the rest of the project hits better.
The keys are sounding incredible on this track, though.
I like this song more than the last, even if it still feels like they aren’t serving up their freshest material. I appreciate the restraint in this song at least, I could listen to it for five seconds and maybe believe it’s someone other than Galneryus. That neoclassical solo is a nice throwback too. This one could grow on me.
Also on-location shooting?! I’m blown away
Edit: so, re-listening, it is growing on me, and I think I know why it didn’t jump out at me immediately: It’s relatively stripped back, it almost feels like it could have existed during the Yama-B days. Good job Syu.
album is skimpy as hell lol. I feel ya though, Syu. You used that big initial pandemic push to make something great, yet slightly lacking due to the circumstances. Then you spent two years waiting for inspiration to strike again, it never came, and you had to rush something to turn in.
I mean it’s pretty decent - but 5 new songs, two of which were dropped in pre-release? Two SEs on a 40 minute EP? An anime ED rerecording?! It’s very startling that this is the result of a near two-year wait, from a group that used to release twice this much material in half the time. I guess age comes for us all, and it’s probably hard to write new Galneryus songs twenty years in; but the material here is all fairly good, and no one other than maybe Ono sounds like they’ve lost a step - so it’s a weird disconnect I’m getting.
After this release, and with the 20th anniversary of The Flag of Punishment coming later this year, I’m wondering how much Galneryus has left in the tank. I feel like Syu can go forever, but I don’t know if he’d continue once Ono or Yuhki decide they’re done
