The album is out and it is incredible. Every song is an absolute banger, I cannot pick a favourite. It sounds like Kamijo but also both new and nostalgic. Twilight has a definite Lareine vibe and I cannot get enough. The chorus in Odyssey is one of my favourite things ever, although I have no idea why. It just scratches my brain just right.
I suspect I will have this album on repeat for days, if not weeks.
Sadly I will have to wait for my physical copy for at least a week because I wasn’t smart enough to pick a faster shipping option when pre-ordering. I am in pain
It all sounds cool but nothing grabbed me, although I can see anthem and odyssey growing on me a lot. Symphony of the vampire is a classic for me and I love everything in it to bits but this one didn’t do the same for me. Production value is through the roof on this one tho
Finally listened to the EP front to cover after having to put it off. It’s nice to contextualize the two songs we got during the Europe tour - I very distinctly remember the "who-o-o-oaa"s during The Anthem and how bombastic they felt during the Paris concert, and even now, listening to the song in situ with the rest of the mini album leaves me with goosebumps!
Ikuo-san and Hiro-san do a LOT of heavy lifting here. I’m super biased as a bassist myself, but historically Kamijo’s mixing did not create a great pocket for the bass to shine through. As a result, some of his songs could feel somewhat thin. But every single song on this mini album really feels like it has weight. I also love how very traditionally metal the guitars are on The Anthem and on Odyssey! I’m obsessed with all the neck dives and chugging!
I agree with everyone else that some of his older influences/points of his career shine through on this mini album, yet all the same it sincerely does sound like a new evolution both for his sound and his voice. In fact I think I remember him tweeting something in the past few months about discovering something new with his vocals and I think it shows in the music here.
