Almost everything we see, we hear, or even that we experience on a daily basis is anchored in a set of presupposed beliefs. Even in the best case it’s possible to discredit literally anything with meaning or communicable intent by climbing the tree of presuppositions supporting someone or something’s veracity, picking one at whim, and casting doubt on it in some way - humans happen to be particularly good at this. Most of the time the “objective” evidence available to formulate our beliefs ISN’T the strongest, but humanity trudges onward because at some point you have to admit philosophizing about whether you’re really hungry isn’t going to put food in anyone’s stomach. The best we can do is keep an open mind and try not to get so entrenched in dogma that ego obstructs the truth.
I do not know who is telling the truth or lying. Neither do you. But one of my beliefs is that “sexual abuse is chronically under-reported irrespective of gender” and one of yours is “women are like that”. It’s hard not to think you’ve already made up your mind.
