Like-an-Angel debut single "Angel beside yoU" release

Some L’Arc fans have drama with this cover band blaming tetsuya according to the comments on YouTube as if tetsuya fired hyde and replaced him with jekyll in L’Arc.

However, no one complains that reno and saki perfectly play ken’s part.
No one complains that hibiki perfectly plays yukihiro’s part.
No one complains that tetsuya perfectly plays his own part.
But some people complain that jekyll perfectly sings hyde’s part in this cover band.

It’s not fair for him.

Like-an-Angel is a L’Arc cover band. Now they have their own original song that sounds like L’Arc. Did those L’Arc fans expect the song to be deathcore or something completely different? As said earlier, tetsuya just wants to play L’Arc songs and it’s not comfortable to do it casually with the L’Arc members. So he formed Like-an-Angel to satisfy that.

My only complain about this song is just they should have an English native to check the grammar of the English lyrics. The rest are already good!

No one complains about hibiki, reno and saki because they are playing those songs in their way. Hibiki is clearly not playing the same parts as yukihiro. He plays as it is his songs. Plus, double Guitars bring something different from L’Arc-en-Ciel.

The problem with this singer is he is trying to mimic the voice, the visual style, hair, moving his body like Hyde, etc.

Yeah, and what about tetsuya? Does he play differently like the said members compared to him playing in L’Arc?

With that logic, the rest of the band are trying to mimic L’Arc anyway. reno and saki play the same instrument as ken, hibiki plays the same instrument as yukihiro. So does tetsuya. And nothing is wrong with that because they’re a L’Arc cover band. They play L’Arc songs and now their own.

L’Arc fans who complain about this band are just biased. If jekyll sang differently or someone else were the vocalist, they would still complain. “Why does tetsuya not find someone who has a similar singing voice to hyde’s if he would like to start a L’Arc cover band?”

Tetsuya is the same person as in L’Arc en ciel, so there is no “copy” topic here.

Do you play an instrument ? It’s very clear that saki, reno and hibiki are playing the songs in their way.

Of course it’s covers, but they are Not trying to look like Ken or yukihiro. Not trying to move like them. And yes, pay attention to the way they play their instruments, it’s different.

Especially hibiki. An example ; Yukihiro always play with his hi-hats cymbal close, it’s kind of part of his signature sound. Hibiki doesn’t play it in that way, hi hat is open. He doesn’t care. And it’s interesting. Because it’s a different interpretation. Same songs, but different interpretation.

If so, do you think it would be better to not have a vocalist at all because they would still be a L’Arc cover band anyway? Like a legendary lineup which each of them plays in their own styles as said but without a vocalist to fulfill L’Arc songs lyrically.

I believe that this isn’t the purpose of tetsuya forming Like-an-Angel. tetsuya found jekyll himself and was amazed by his singing voice. He has worked with hyde for almost 35 years, and jekyll has the closest singing voice to hyde’s. tetsuya approved it, and he must do something with him. And this is how Like-an-Angel was formed.

A J-rock legend like tetsuya can choose whoever to play with. There are a bunch of talented musicians around him. But tetsuya chose jekyll for his singing voice despite he is a foreigner. jekyll also does a great job. He can sing every single L’Arc song in perfect Japanese, and he is someone the rest of lineup are happy to work with.

So why would tetsuya have to care about those negative opinions? He didn’t replace hyde with jekyll in the real L’Arc. He just wants to have fun playing L’Arc songs with this lineup which the vocalist has the closest singing voice to hyde’s he could ever find.

If you ask me about the singer of this band. I would say that this project would be even more interesting with a singer who could show his own personality.

I don’t really see the value to do a cover which is trying to be 100 % close to the original version (For this band, i talk about vocal).

It’s my small opinion. And it doesn’t seems to be tetsuya’s one.

I respect tetsuya’s choices. Of course he is free to do whatever he wants. Don’t worry, he probably doesn’t care about people like me. Like you said, he already have a strong career, and is a millionary.

BUT, it’s my right to criticize a project with arguments. Positive or negative, It’s enriching to read people opinions. As long as it’s with real arguments and not just : " It’s bad, it’s a sh**. etc. ". It’s one of the main reasons I like to come to read forums like jrockone. I’m interested to see how people can express their feeling to a project, a music, a concert.
