Jekyll…I wonder how HYDE feels about this  He’s even trying to sound like HYDE.

I was initially kinda excited to see Tetsuya revive the spirit of classic Laruku with this glorified tribute act, but this original song… it just sounds like whatever bland, middle-of-the-road, “good enough I guess”-tier music the current semi-destroyed Laruku would release. Not off to a promising start for me.

That’s why tetsuya chose him because this is originally a L’Arc tribute band. It’s normal that many L’Arc cover vocalists are trying to sound like hyde. But none of them have the chance to work with tetsuya in this project even if they’re Japanese vocalists. jekyll snatched this chance and has done a great job.

jekyll has the most identical singing voice to hyde’s and this is officially approved by tetsuya himself who has worked with hyde for over 30 years.

Well in that case they succeeded because he sounds a lot like HYDE.

I quite like the band as a cover act since they play all of the b-sides and album tracks L’Arc doesn’t really play. I think this side project also succeeds simply because they’re just performing more than the actual L’Arc now? Real L’arc only performs if the members want to bankroll their next year or two doing whateaver or when the band’s management pokes them enough to keep the brand of life support.

That said, now that Like-an-Angel ventured into new music territory it feels like it’s really going to put a nail into the L’Arc coffin.

It’s better, don’t need a band who hates each other forcing out music every few years. You Gotta Run isn’t bad though.

I’m probably in the minority but I actually really like tetsu’s solo project which is what I originally was hoping this was going to be him on vocals.

I just realized that Like-an-Angel when pronounced in Japanese would sound similar to L’Arc-en-Ciel.

Wings Flap was the last best thing I enjoyed by them and before that it was the Awake album / songs which I still think was the last time they really cohesively worked together as a band. I’m guessing now they’re just passing tracks to each other (via their management) or visiting the recording studio on different days to lay down their parts.

Out of all of the solos, Tetsuya has the most interesting thing going on probably because you could imagine half of the songs being for L’Arc except they’re missing the edgier aspects that hyde, ken and yukihiro would’ve brought to the tracks.

To copy his own band, is a weak concept. Especially for the vocal. He sounds like Hyde, but emotionally weaker. He even try to move like him. Instead of being himself.

It’s more like tetsuya wants to play L’Arc’s songs but given the band’s situation, he can’t do it comfortably. So he formed Like-an-Angel.

This is clearly it, in my interpretation too. If we get a steadier and consistent stream of new songs out of this project, I’d be happy to check in with them from time to time, instead of those throwaway L’Arc tracks that feel like they were forced at gunpoint to squeeze out of themselves every few years, lol.

(let’s be honest, I don’t think L’Arc’s been much of an “actual functioning band” since the late 2000s)

Looking forward to that live performance when it pops up.

After the Wish version of Kamijo, the Wish version of Hyde. More seriously, i really like the guitar duo.

It sounds great.
I like it more t han Gonna Run, Mirai, or the other single I don’t even remember.
I’ve already accepted that LARC reunites to fill stadiums with good classics and their anime songs, and what’s interesting is what they release outside of the band. (By the way, I also loved Wings Flat, their last and best release.)
They did seem a bit more united in the concert they streamed from Underworld. I had hopes of a resurgence, but with this move, I see how difficult it is…

Nice to see Saki playing again
