it has been announced by his agency that luz (real name Koji Tatewaki (帯刀光司)), a solo artist for 15 years and organizer of the jpop unit XYZ, has suddenly passed away on 8/19. He was only 32 years old.
His anniversary oneman live scheduled for 8/31 has been cancelled. May he rest in peace.
Nooo, so young!
I have some of his tracks in my playlists and followed him from time to time.
RIP, thanks for the good music.
EDIT:
I don’t want to theorize, but due his early year incidents and all the blacklash, something drives me to think there’s a fair probability of him taking his own life.
I hate to post even more speculation on someone’s death, but recently he also got busted with THC gummies after someone in the industry invited him to a party. He talked about it in detail here and takes full responsibility for it. (edit: someone else claimed he actually invited a girl to the party and gave her the gummies o.o)
It’s just really sad that Japan stigmatizes these people and don’t give them the help that they actually need.
It wasn’t my style of music, but it had several support members I admire. I’m sorry for their friends and family.
I have an opinion on its cancellation in 2024.
Based on what I’ve read, I don’t agree with the drug issue. I don’t defend them, but he doesn’t seem to me to be as serious an issue as the consequences he suffered as a result. I’m not trying to start an ethical debate either.
This one comes with an alleged sexual harrasment to a youtuber, but is all speculation. he got himself into a heated public debate to clean his name.
He had a brilliant career ahead but at the same time he changed industries very fast and as what i am reading different testimonies from ex- friends in the jpop/ youtube pop(?) industry this change comes with “bad adults” that tried to make profit of him and later, when he was arrested, and Pony Canyon cut ties with him, many many people inside the industry turned their backs on him.
He went to rehabilitation as part of his probation period.
After he tried to comeback, seemed likeonly few people remained to willingly associate with him in public.
Leda was a bit cold on his words towards his passing. but who are we fans to condemn someone who took bad decisions but didn;t have any proper help.
His last tweet a few weeks ago was very pessimistic and, sadly, a premature indication of what sadly happened today.
